PORTLAND, Ore — Educators and parents rallied on Saturday against nationwide legislation that would prevent "critical race theory" from being taught in schools.
Speakers at the rally at the Friendship Circle in Portland told KATU News that they support critical race theory -- which is a legal term used to describe systemic racism.
David Scholten is a fifth grade teacher with Portland Public Schools and they told KATU News that not everyone understands what goes on in the classroom.
There's a lot of confusion about whether or not what we're doing is divisive or not -- and we believe that systemic racism is divisive. Racism is divisive. And in order to heal, we need to come forward, and expose the whole truth of our nation," Scholten said.
This week, Florida joined more than half a dozen other states in banning critical race theory. The curriculum -- which teaches students that racism is systemic and embedded into many American systems and institutions -- has turned into a controversial academic movement.
Educators at the Portland rally on Saturday said they were not only rallying in support of critical race theory, but were also rallying in support of their fellow teachers of color.

Well "Critical Race Theory" is not factual or true - so why would you teach it? "Critical Race Theory" does exactly the opposite of exposing "the whole true of our nation."
This is an excellent example of why decisions about public education should be made (and left) at the local school board level. If Antifa parents in Portland want CRT, fine. Those school board members can and will vote for it. If normal parents in a neighboring town don’t want it, and the school board tries it, they can be recalled or voted out. The problem is: school boards are bankrolled by the teachers unions nationwide. This needs to stop and voters need to start voting for school board members who don’t take union $$.
As for me and my household: I pulled my teen daughter out of public school last summer (to private) and she is thriving. I pulled my teen son out of public school in Jan (to homeschool) and he is thriving.
School choice is needed SOOOO badly.
One would expect tens of thousands of whites to kill themselves in Oregon. It would ensure racial justice.
I’ll bet that a good portion of the 10% are East Asian...Chinese/Japanese/Korean.
Fire every damned one of them! Replace them with qualified veterans and/or retired police officers.
Doesn’t work that way. Residents can move to other states. Doesn’t matter if they live West or East of the Cascades, if they choose to remain after watching Oregon devolve into a liberal garbage fire for the past two decades, they’re just as much to blame as anyone else.
So let’s think about an entrepreneur or investor looking to open a business. You think Oregon is looking good? Those who can get out are leaving for Idaho Wyoming etc, call them OREGONers.
Racists are people who are obsessed with race, make everything about race, and project their own maniacal racism onto all the people they hate.
I am going to be discussing CRT with family members who think it is just fine.

Lots of these 'teachers' are average to stupid, have classes filled with kids functioning below grade level (because they can't teach), and are incompetent and mean.
Paying them better is the worst solution.
Make teaching a real job - make it full time (40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year) and the deadwood will move back to sitting at home collecting some kind of pay... rather than damaging our children.
