A shooting Wednesday morning at a light-rail yard near downtown San Jose left nine people dead, including the gunman. Here’s what is known so far:
• The shooting was first reported at 6:34 a.m. at a Valley Transportation Authority control center at 101 W. Younger Ave., with multiple 911 calls.
• Nine VTA employees, including the alleged shooter, Samuel J. Cassidy, 57, are dead. Multiple people are injured.
• The facility was evacuated. It is described as a hub that stores multiple VTA trains, and is also a maintenance yard.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith said Thursday morning that Samuel James Cassidy, the alleged gunman who killed nine people at the Valley Transportation railyard in San Jose on Wednesday morning, had two semiautomatic handguns and 11 magazines. According to news reports, Smith said the guns appeared to be legal.

One curious side-story came up from a previous girlfriend (from a decade ago it appears), and she described him as a nutcase. Will be interesting to see if he was like the Vegas shooter, and on medication of some type.

There is violence each and every day in this country, from Chicago, to Atlanta, to New Orleans and now San Jose. The cause of this violence is not medication, but that we have too many violent thugs.

People are aware of our society medicating thousands of young people for “behavioral problems” when they are in elementary schools and higher. A LARGE number of those folks become permanent customers for the legal drug pushers(aka doctors, shrinks, etc). The majority of mass shootings are performed by the above group.
On a personal note. A friend, late 50’s, got talked into taking “antidepressants”. After 6 months on said meds, he went home one day and killed his wife and then killed himself. He was NOT suicidal prior to getting medicated.
They will beat this one to death because the shooter was white. Black shooters don’t get this scrutiny. It is usually blamed on some unfortunate circumstance of their life due to systemic racism.

When we first moved into the Frisco area 30+ years ago we got a subscription to the SFC. About ten years ago it was worth about as much as.....well, I was gonna refer to toidy paper.
Finally got wife to agree to cancel. Their “subscription recovery manager” (i.e., think some poor sucker tasked with convincing rats to reboard a sinking ship) called me and asked why. I replied: “Because your paper is nothing, absolutely nothing other than adverts and propaganda. He hung up on me! The nerve! It did feel good, tho. Hope I made his day even worse.
now they have to ban 10 round magazines . . . . .
