Destiny Brown, senior at Ohio State University, breathed a sigh of relief in her dorm room when the guilty verdict came down for Derek Chauvin. But minutes later, she learned that a 16-year-old Black girl, Ma’Khia Bryant, had been killed that afternoon by Columbus police.
“I can’t even begin to process the fact we live in a world where people’s lives — guilty or not, innocent or not — their lives just do not matter,” Brown said.
Overcome with a feeling of helplessness, Brown fired off a group message to her friends. Following the demonstration, the crowd marched to the Ohio Statehouse, chanting Bryant’s name.
As of Friday afternoon, many details surrounding Bryant’s death remained unclear. Police arrived at the home where she lived, and in police body camera footage, Bryant is seen holding a knife,fighting with another girl.
An officer approaches the girls, asking, “What’s going on?” before yelling at them to “Get down!” three times.
Moments later Bryant lunges at a second girl as a Columbus officer, Nicholas Reardon, fires four shots at Bryant.
“She’s just a kid,” a bystander is heard saying.
“As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting,” Floyd family attorney Ben Crump tweeted. “Another child lost! Another hashtag.”
Brown believes more could have been done to deescalate the situation.
“You have a choice,” she said. “There’s a gun and there’s a Taser. He made that choice to pick the gun up.”
“Black students here continue to feel left out as repeated instances of violence against our community go unaddressed and disregarded,” said a Black female OSUjunior.
“All we have asked of our university is to truly make us feel safe, seen and heard by divesting from CPD.”

A state college in my town first took the guns away from the campus cops. The campus is in a heavily forested part of town.
In December they severed ties with city cops.
So far since January, there have been 3 rapes and assaults on females. More than on the past 5 years combined.
I have trouble imagining any graduate of that university getting hired by a private enterprise business owner who cares about his/her bottom line-I wouldn’t...
C’mon. An overweight, violent knife wielding slasher is now a campus hero and a reason to disdain people who risk their lives as first responders?
Must be a lot of dope passed around on campus.
A few years ago an ambulance answered a call at night in the City of Detroit. It was a false call to get them in line to be slashed viciously by a black man waiting for them.

He kidnapped and raped two women and sexually assaulted and murdered, Dantoya White, a teen stabbed and found in a Detroit alley on Jan. 1, 2006.

There’s a chance, albeit a small one, that some BLM protesters, especially those not on the BLM payroll, will stop buying the t-shirts and mugs when they see how even black victims mean nothing to the Marxists.
I will go further. ALL police agencies should sever ties with black communities. If cops get called and it turns out to be a black victim or perpetrator, keep on driving.
I believe the courts say police are not required to do or protect anyone, getting involved is their option and the are there to record crimes etc. for the court. they should go back to just that.
Can they sever ties with people who wield a knife and attempt to stab them? Oh wait, that is reycist even though it was 0bummer himself that said bring a gun to knife fight. So why are they so triggered man!
