Gov. Tom Wolf on Monday announced a major clean energy initiative that he said will produce nearly 50% of the state government’s electricity through new solar energy arrays.
Wolf said Pennsylvania PULSE (Project to Utilize Light and Solar Energy) will go into operation Jan. 1, 2023.
According to the governor, the project is the largest solar commitment by any government in the U.S. announced to date.
Solar arrays will be built in seven locations in six counties: York, Juniata, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland and Snyder.
The total 191-megawatt project is expected to deliver 361,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year.
"This clean, environmentally-friendly solar energy will lower our annual carbon dioxide emission statewide by 157,000 metric tons, which is the equivalent of taking more than 34,000 cars off the road," General Services Secretary Curt Topper said.
Officials said the solar project will also create 400-plus jobs.

Pffftttt! That ain’t nuthin’. NevaDUH legislation is now in place to have 50% renewables by 2030 and 100% by 2050. Whether we like it or not and no matter how much it costs us. Butt, NevaDUH may have some parts they could sell to wolfe at a discount:

Yeah, like that would save money and effective in sunny PA. These leftist are just plain stupid.
Can’t wait to watch how this works out.
Penn averages 179 sunny days a year. On the standard gauge (I went to a solar panel show three years ago)...it would marginally work...probably half of your power needs would have to still come from the grid.
Arizona, for the record, would be 299 days a year, and easily payback the investment and would be worth the effort.
Why wait until 2023, solar is already known to be a higher carbon usage in manufacturing the product than it will produce in 'clean energy' throughout it's life cycle.
Pennsylvania already is known to sit on oil and natural gas reserves,
but this leader (?) will spend more on energy because it looks good to the 'green energy' folks.
Pennsylvania citizens should be prepare now to spend more for energy, rather than use just what is underfoot !
Just more wasting of taxpayers money so that the new 'Green Energy' folks can 'feel good' in subsequent winters, while freezing their butts off.
I once had neighbors near the Pa./NY border who found natural gas in their shallow water well.
I was skeptical until they put a match near the kitchen spigot, and out shot both water and a sustaining blue gas flame.

I have to wonder if it snows in PA.
True, but even so it’ll be handed to the taxpayers for payment. I don’t even mind EVs, but going to much for green energy is a real nightmare scenario even if it’s just for gov.
I got stuck in an ice storm in Pennsylvania, I believe it was in January 2000. I had been in South Carolina for about a week, and when I headed back home, an ice storm swept through Route 95, from Virginia on up. I stayed overnight in Chancellorsville. Everything was closed, even the mall. I had plans to stop at the National Archives the next day, and then headed to Lancaster, Pa. The roads in Pa. were horrible. Inches of ice on the ground. I did finally make it to Lancaster, but everything there was closed, even the outlet malls. The wind chill was minus 40, and my old VW wouldn't start the next day. Called AAA for a jump, but they told me that Route 81 was closed, and I wouldn't be able to go anywhere. So I hunkered down in the hotel room for an extra two days. Pennsylvania was doing rolling blackouts. The power went out in my room in the morning. At that time, there was a diner across the way, so I walked over there to grab a sandwich. Since they had no electricity, that's all they could offer. I ended up having to stay a couple more days. The temperatures returned to normal, and my car finally started, and made my way home to central NY. That was the worst ice storm I had ever experienced in my lifetime.
Never thought of PA as a sunshine state. Who knew?
