Poll shows Collins down 12 points, Graham tied with Democratic challenger

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) face rising odds in their high-profile re-election bids, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday.

Why it matters: Many thought Graham's Senate race was a long shot for Democrats, and the moderate Collins has served as a pivotal Republican swing vote on a number of key issues during the Trump presidency.

Collins, who has criticized Trump at times but voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and to acquit the president in his impeachment trial, is down 54%-42% to her Democratic challenger Sara Gideon, Maine's House Speaker.

Graham is tied 48%-48% with Jaime Harrison, his Democratic challenger and the first African-American chairman of South Carolina's Democratic party. Meanwhile: Democrat Amy McGrath, who has raised massive amounts of cash in her high-profile Kentucky Senate race, is down 53%-41% to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to the Quinnipiac poll.

What they're saying: "Senate control hangs in the balance as the GOP confronts a likely nail biter in South Carolina and a possible knockout in Maine, offset by a presumably solid lead in Kentucky," Quinnipiac analyst Tim Malloy said in a press release.

Methodology: 1,164 likely voters surveyed in Kentucky with a MOE of ±2.9 percentage points. 1,183 likely voters surveyed in Maine with a MOE of ±2.9 percentage points. 969 likely voters surveyed in South Carolina with a MOE of ±3.2 percentage points.

Right -5 sounds about right. She might survive. It’s true she is about as reliable as Pierre but we need the seat so let’s hope she wins.

“Right now I have the Senate as D+6 and the House as D+15.”

And your view of Trump’s chances?

Hope this isn't accurate

Really? I’d be lying if I said I felt the same. I understand the R letter and control of the Senate so I definitely am not supporting their opponent. However I would love to see a newer, Trumpian R instead of the quisling past both of these senior representatives have displayed.

She is better than Pierre by several levels. He is 100% useless!

I would find it remarkable if Collins managed to lose her seat. I would assume there was corruption if she managed to lose it by 10 points.

Maine is lost...truly lost.Yes,the rural parts of the state sometime vote GOP but they represent a small minority of the population. As a whole just think of Maine as Massachusetts North.

South Carolina is surprising...and disturbing (if true).

Amen... She’s only in this situation because she’s as disloyal as McCain and Rommey. Lindsey is just as bad but has a slightly more conservative State.

Does anyone see the irony and hypocrisy here?

Collins is one of those Republican that the media and Dems always play up and wish that all Republicans were.

She's the very definition of that "moderate, sensible" Republican.

So why are Dems and leftist groups attacking her?

Trump will be re-elected. I do not believe he will be allowed to be sworn in.

True, Pierre is just a unprincipled snake but her vote is not much more reliable then his. Like Graham we cannot afford to lose a seat because few things are more important then keeping the majority.

Thanks for your projections for the House, Senate and the WH. These are some of the most pessimistic predictions I have seen. Appreciate you willing to share this.

One question - why do you think Trump will not be allowed to be sworn in if he wins the re-election?

I said not too long ago that the GOP is going to lose four senate seats: McSally (AZ); Gardner (CO); Collins (ME), and Tillis (NC).

“So why are Dems and leftist groups attacking her?”

She’s vulnerable, and the Rats want the senate.

Sometime back, a Freeper commented that this is the democrat’s real goal. Not the WH, but the Senate.

With mail vote fraud, the 'Rats don't have to get their lazy butts to the polls.

It depends on whether the fix is in. If so, we don't have a chance. Assuming there's no fraud, I'll say Trump has a slight edge because his supporters will show up and vote. Democrats will mail in their ballots, but the catch is, will all of them do that? If 10% do not even bother to mail in their ballots, that could end up hurting Biden big time.
