The gun industry has never seen anything like 2020, and the explosion in sales driven by the concerns over rising crime, protests, the coronavirus crisis, and the presidential election are expected to continue.
Bottom line is that there has never been a sustained surge in firearm sales quite like what we are in the midst of, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry trade group, said in a report shared with Secrets.
New sales and customer data collected from gun stores are even more shocking than the latest historic level of FBI background checks for purchases, security clearances, and concealed carry permits.
Approximately 90 percent of retailers reported an increase in firearm and ammunition sales during the first half of 2020 versus the first half of 2019, said the report.
Sales, meanwhile, aren't just to the traditional customer base of white males. The report said that the surge is among others, especially blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.

Good enough! Everyone is seeing the need for home defense now.

New pistol owners should take a two day class. If you cant change a mag in under two seconds... get rid of the pistol.
Yes but law abiding citizens know this. A friends husband with an extensive gun collection was dying of brain cancer....he took the time he had to distribute his guns in his will. What nobody except - was he also had guns hidden the walls throughout his home. He left a map of location in his will.
“can’t buy” yes correct.
Somebody posted upthread about most of the buyers being women and making first time purchases. That’s what I’ve observed also. I grabbed the attention of a few older women when I took my son to a gun shop and they all wanted advice on what they should buy.
Straw man purchases happen daily though.
Im a bit surprised that race would be included on the gun permit application.
Thank you I was just going to post that too! Lol
Trying to buy guns and ammo in times like this is like closing the barn door after the horse is out. The time to have bought it was six months ago. IF we ever get back to the "old normal" I'd recommend getting whatever you need when it's readily available and storing it away. The democrats are never going to stop their gun control madness, these panic buying sprees are going to continue until democrats succeed in making guns/ammo impossible to get. It's pretty much guaranteed.
BATF Form 4473 requires racial data.
.556 ammo is really short. About 8 months ago one could get a 1,000 rd. bulk box of American Eagle ammo at PSA for about $.25/rd., after rebate from PSA. Now it’s $.59 or $.60/rd. and no rebate, more than twice as much. Their .556/.223 modern sporting rifles are in similar short supply. Get it while you can, if you don’t have enough.
At least we can assume that the much hated gun manufacturers and ammo producers are cranking out product 24/7. Their profit, our benefit.
So far, only one pundit blames racism for the surge. But this thread proves that black purchasers fear crime and disorder, too.
Sure hope that little weasel Beto O’Blather repeats what he said at a gun show; “there’s no sense your buying AR-15s because we’re just going to confiscate them”.
Fake news. Ammunition sales can’t be up 139%. There’s no ammo out there to buy!
“Firearms training school attendance should be skyrocketing.”
It is.
That's ok...I don't like to shoot the unarmed.
Great advice...and post!
At the (indoor) gun range a couple Friday's ago - there were about eight young black girls waiting to take the 9:00 am NRA firearms course.
Just anectodal, but I have never seen that before.
