VIDEO: Cop Asks Hecklers For Help Cuffing Suspect Resisting Arrest, So They Help
Holly Matkin
Houston, TX A knife-wielding suspect was disarmed and safely taken into custody after officers asked people who were heckling them to help them arrest the man (video below).
The incident occurred at a convenience store on Fuqua Street on July 6, KHOU reported.
Ulerick Fields said he stopped by the store to grab a pack of gum when he saw people running out of the business, so he picked up his phone and began recording.

Cell phone footage showed witnesses rushing out of the building as Houston police approached the front doors to assist the officer struggling with the suspect inside.
One witness told Fields that the suspect seemed to be on drugs and that he nearly stole $450 from her.
He had a knife a butcher knife, she added.
Theyre gonna shoot him, man, Fields responded. Yall aint gotta shoot him. Hes just got a knife.
The video showed the suspect as officers struggled with him inside the business.
A moment later, an officer tased him and the combative man fell face-down onto the ground halfway out the front door.
One officer kneeled in the middle of the suspects back as the they fought to take him into custody.
Dont get on his neck now, Fields warned the officer.
Im on his back, the officer responded. Im right here, alright?
The officer then asked Fields and other bystanders to help him, the video showed.
Fields told KTRK that he initially though the officer was being sarcastic, but that he quickly realized that wasnt the case.
You need some help? he asked, moving closer to the scuffle.
Yeah! one of the officers yelled. The sooner we cuff him, the sooner we can get him up.
Video footage showed the suspect tucking his hands beneath his body, resisting arrest.
At no point did those cops need that guy’s help. It was to make things better on the streets... The knife was gone and the cop had his knee in the guys back but the guy kept his arms underneath his stomach.
The cop asked the guy videotaping to pull the arms out so they could handcuff him. There was no danger at any point.
If the cops thought that was good community outreach that’s fine.
But the sympathy and pity the black people had for a guy with a butcher’s knife who stole money and was on drugs was ridiculous.
If that was my neighborhood and it was an Italian guy with a knife on drugs and stealing I would tell the cops to beat him like a baby seal and I’d kick him in the stomach once myself.
Cuz he ain’t heavy and he ain’t my brother if he’s doing that.
Cop used the psychology of a bystander’s propensity to help in an emergency situation.
Makes for a nice video, I’m glad it worked out.
It might also have turned out pretty badly letting the crowd get so close to the cop. Although I guess with 2 or more cops inside the store he felt pretty safe.
>>Yall aint gotta shoot him. Hes just got a knife.<<
The bystander is very concerned with the well being of a violent thug, because the thug is black. THIS is a serious issue with the black community, as you point out.
RE: this story...why do I get the impression that Houston is still suffering the aftermath from Hurricane Katrina?
Exactly. Although I would characterize it these days as the psychology of a virtue signaling bystander.
you are right. And it tells a lot about that neighborhood that the guy thinks a butcher’s knife is no big deal. Because they live like animals and kill each other left and right so anything short of a gun is nothing.
Someone with a butcher’s knife can do a hell of a lot of damage
:)
Yeah, cause everyone knows knives aren’t a big danger.
Good grief we’re turning out an amazing amount of morons
these days.

If some hostile with a butcher knife is within “Teuller Drill” range of me, I will be drawing and firing immediately.

The police needed assistance? What is going on here?
That sounds weird to me.
I really like how the officers handled this. They didn’t really need any extra help, but they chose to get the bystanders involved. It totally diffused a potentially volatile situation and given the current climate, it comes out as a huge net positive for relations.
Oh, yeah, Mr. Fields. Glad you’re on top of whether or not there’s another George Lloyd incident. “Are you standing on his neck?”
Wow, the bystanders cared more for the violent criminal than for the victim or the police.
The cops were forced to diffuse the situation by asking for help, but the truth is, bystanders can accidentally kill a person being arrested, too.
“But the sympathy and pity the black people had for a guy with a butchers knife who stole money and was on drugs was ridiculous.”
Which i suspect is a big part of the BLM “movement”. Some in the black community want to be able steal, do hard drugs and generally break the law period. While collecting a government check to boot.
Yep
He didnt need help. He asked for help so these lame brains videoing wouldnt start another George Floyd invented incident that hed be a part of and eventually fired, jailed and god knows what else.
