If Musk would ride one to the space station, it would go a long way to demonstrate how safe it is. But putting someone else in the capsule, isn’t much risk for him.

Should all presidents, rocket engineers and heads of NASA have gone up?

Well, I don’t remember Werner Von Braun going to the moon, either.

It is wonderful to be able to witness America surging back into the manned space launch business again. Obama and the leftist ilk tried damn hard to drive American innovation into the ground.

Trump came on the scene...the leftist have failed. Election night 2020 is going to be so incredibly entertaining in that the leftist are going to get trounced.

They've over played their hands and exposed themselves as the good socialist/communist that they are.

Cheap shot. Musk isn’t a pilot and is smart enough to leave certain skill required tasks to those that have the skills. One of the reasons that he has brought us to this place. He understands the gravity of what he is asking.

I am not a big Musk fan but credit is due in this case.

It’s easy to “take risks” when you get 5 billion in gov subsidies.

Great article about Musk, the unique opportunities in America, and risk taking. Thanks for posting it.

There's a good profile of Musk on the Encyclopedia Brittanica which complements this article.

The author asks...

Will America’s next generation lose this national character of risk-taking and become risk-averse if they are brought up in lockdowns and masks, always staying six feet from others, always obeying the rules, while being taught that safety, above all, is the most important thing in life?
That is certainly a good question, but I think the answer to that is "no" -- in the long run, this will be a blip in most peoples' lives. We've been through pandemics before and they were quickly forgotten.

Of course if this virus is more like the HIV virus which defeats our immune system and we cannot conquer it (as was posited in a paper yesterday), then this is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

Are you saying that Draper or Northrup shouldn’t have gotten anything for Apollo? Or are you just one of those anti-space luddites? It isn’t free, but it’s more of worth than almost any other government spending.

Two American astronauts, Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken, will strap themselves in the Dragon capsule, which sits on top of the Falcon 9 rocket — both built by Elon Musk’s company SpaceX — and depart for the International Space Station on May 27.

It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near

I will see my dream come alive at last
I will touch the sky
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're not gonna change my mind
No they're not gonna hold me down

“Are you saying that Draper or Northrup shouldn’t have gotten anything for Apollo? “

I think everyone should get everything. I’m for all space exploration and privatization. Just don’t call it “brave” or “risk taking” if you don’t truly have skin in the game, physically or financially.

Hi.

In the fwiw department, I wouldn’t strap a hundred tons of explosives to my a$$ for any reason.

And I’ve been in some serious situations.

Would you go?

I really liked the opening theme song. Too bad after the first year or so the writing went to hell and it augared into fail!
