If Musk would ride one to the space station, it would go a long way to demonstrate how safe it is. But putting someone else in the capsule, isn’t much risk for him.

It is wonderful to be able to witness America surging back into the manned space launch business again. Obama and the leftist ilk tried damn hard to drive American innovation into the ground.

Trump came on the scene...the leftist have failed. Election night 2020 is going to be so incredibly entertaining in that the leftist are going to get trounced.

They've over played their hands and exposed themselves as the good socialist/communist that they are.

Great article about Musk, the unique opportunities in America, and risk taking. Thanks for posting it.

There's a good profile of Musk on the Encyclopedia Brittanica which complements this article.

The author asks...

Will America’s next generation lose this national character of risk-taking and become risk-averse if they are brought up in lockdowns and masks, always staying six feet from others, always obeying the rules, while being taught that safety, above all, is the most important thing in life?
That is certainly a good question, but I think the answer to that is "no" -- in the long run, this will be a blip in most peoples' lives. We've been through pandemics before and they were quickly forgotten.

Of course if this virus is more like the HIV virus which defeats our immune system and we cannot conquer it (as was posited in a paper yesterday), then this is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

Two American astronauts, Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken, will strap themselves in the Dragon capsule, which sits on top of the Falcon 9 rocket — both built by Elon Musk’s company SpaceX — and depart for the International Space Station on May 27.

It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near

I will see my dream come alive at last
I will touch the sky
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're not gonna change my mind
No they're not gonna hold me down

Right now line of showers passing over to be followed by strong storms until after 5p. then next round looks like it will start around 630p. Don’t know where that leaves them for a good launch window. Showers and storms pass through until Monday

When I was a kid, space travel was a really big thing. I got one of these for Christmas and I was pumped!

And today, boys get excited about _______________?

The wuhan death virus response by many Americans suggests that risk (at least for them) is never a desired situation. Their fear is what drives them to at all costs seek “safety”. They are even willing to give-up their Freedoms to achieve at least an illusion of safety. Pathetic.

Has anyone heard how big the launch window is?? With t-storms in area, there’s a good chance it will be delayed and I’m wondering how big the window is for it to achieve the correct orbit/attitude.

Two American astronauts, Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken, will . . . depart for the International Space Station on May 27.

Doug and Bob are social distancing the right way - leaving Pelosi, Biden, Hilary, and the rest of the petty tyrants far behind.

I was born in 1948 and grew up through the Boston public school system.

My first memories are somewhere around 4 or 5 years old, 1952, 3 & 4.

Space travel was a big part of what came to be known as SciFi (Ray Bradbury and others)

So, when I was about 13, Alan Shepard went into outer space (to our young minds), and a whole WORLD of possibilities opened up for us.

We came out'a WW2 total victors and arrogant as hell and we moved America forward that way.

It is with great joy and anticipation I get to see this afternoon's space launch
