How George Soros's Marijuana Advocacy Makes the COVID-19 Panic Worse
American Thinker.com ^ | April 1, 2020 | Rachel Ehrenfeld

George Soros's first major effort to reshape America was undertaking the legitimization of illegal drug use, especially marijuana. Soros initially said his overarching goal was to promote informed discussion of drug policy. But debate and discussion are not his style and were not his objects. Instead, he used his resources to fund think-tanks, foundations, and public policy action groups that successfully muddled public opinion enough to change public laws, making illegal drug use legal.

In the early 1990s, the notion of legalizing marijuana in the U.S. was unthinkable and unacceptable. The voices to legalize drugs were marginal and not in sync. This changed in 1993, when Soros, who claimed that prohibitionist drug policies are wrong because they contradict his vision of the "Open Society," launched a $15-million pro–drug legalization propaganda campaign that has made him the new darling of the media left. Soros and his acolytes have garnered enormous press attention through a barrage of magazine articles, op-ed pieces, and television appearances. By 1996, the slogans of "medicalization" and "compassion" joined "legalization" and "decriminalization," as well as "nonviolent drug offender." All of these were shaping the vocabulary of the public dialogue. Soros's sponsorship provided the credibility theretofore lacking in the movement to legalize drugs.

David Callahan, the liberal founder and editor of the website Inside Philanthropy, noted in his 2018 book The Givers: Wealth, Power, and Philanthropy in a New Gilded Age, that "no philanthropist has done more than Soros to soften America's drug laws. Soros got behind that cause in the mid-1990s, funding a new drug policy think tank and bankrolling the push for medicinal marijuana, widely seen as a bridge to legalization. Today, two decades after Soros began his push — and many tens of millions of dollars later — several states have legalized pot,

This... thing... is pure evil. He should’ve been rotting in an Israeli prison for the past 70+ years or removed from humanity. He actively wants the destruction of humanity and civilization.

Lying stoned in your parents’ basement is no way to encourage critical thinking. That has been the objective of legalizing marijuana and other recreational drugs (which do very little for REAL recreation) and rationalizing its use for the supposed “tax revenue” is another empty promise that shall never be fulfilled. The costs associated with relatively uncontrolled drug use greatly exceed the additional funds collected in levies placed on the product as “sin taxes”. And you end up with a lot of low-information people, who can be motivated to vote.

I wouldn't be surprised if Soros cash was heavily involved in the militant homosexual movement.

Drugs and sexual perversion seem to be the 'coin of the realm' with leftists.

I remember reading a report years ago about the lung issues of persistent marijuana users. The conclusion was that it's many times worse than cigarette smoke. That was well before legalization. I wonder how many of the “younger” Wuhan virus victims are pot smokers.

If they are the Wuhan flu is rarely dangerous to anyone outside the standard 4 immune compromised groups (the chronically ill, drug users, the elderly and homosexuals).

“What CDC Recommends
CDC and FDA recommend that people not use THC-containing e-cigarette, or vaping, products, particularly from informal sources like friends, family, or in-person or online dealers.”

It sounds like vaping doesn’t mitigate the damaging effects of the drug. I tried to tell a guy that marijuana had long lasting damaging effects. He thought that was nonsense, they wouldn’t have legalized it if it did. Soros had a willing audience waiting for this one.

Soros and the Left knows that they can change the thinking of just about anybody, given enough time and money. Using the power of language, they slowly and methodically change their arguments to appeal to the masses. People who were steadfastly opposed to certain behaviors, within 10 years, become sympathetic. The manipulated think that they are enlightened.

The imagine of stoners lying in their parents basement is anecdotal at best, sophomoric at worst. Because of marijuana’s illegality there are no consumer product safety laws in place and in those sates where it isn’t legal drugs dealer sure don’t ask for id.

There is no reason on Earth why criminals should continue to profit from it’s sale and distribution and no reason why adults shouldn’t be allowed to smoke. People don’t get off their ass to vote when they’re sober.

There is little comparison in lung damage between smoking tobacco and/or MJ and vaping with approved commercial vaping sticks. Not even close.

IKts a well known and old fact that Soros has sworn that his desire is to destroy America.

The LEFT, the Academia and the MSM has no problems taking his money and instructions.

When all is said and done, people hold more allegiance to the almighty $$$ and their paychecks than to their country. Very rarely do I see people "Fighting to Defend & Protect the Constitution".

what were the vaping deaths?

From illicit products.

This is like blaming moonshine for ethanol deaths.
