Trump considering 'full pardon' for Michael Flynn after FBI 'lost' records

President Trump said he is seriously considering a pardon for former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.

“So now it is reported that, after destroying his life & the life of his wonderful family (and many others also), the FBI, working in conjunction with the Justice Department, has 'lost' the records of General Michael Flynn. How convenient. I am strongly considering a Full Pardon!” Trump tweeted on Sunday.

Flynn, 61, pleaded guilty in December 2017 for lying to investigators about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak, and faces possible prison time.

After swapping legal teams, Flynn changed his tune, telling the U.S. District Court in Washington in January, “I am innocent of this crime." He filed to withdraw his guilty plea after the Justice Department asked Judge Emmet Sullivan to sentence Flynn to up to six months in prison, though afterward, the department said it believed probation would also be appropriate. Flynn's team, led by Sidney Powell, a former federal prosecutor, is now pressing for the dismissal of his case, arguing that the client was unfairly treated by the FBI.

Stone, Manafort, and Flynn. Do them all at the same time.

Let’s pass a law that says losing records or losing emails has a mandatory prison sentence. Even for Democrats. Put that in the text of the law: “EVEN DEMOCRATS”.

I am all for it, but when does Trump fire the FBI director and his entire staff for such a criminal act??

First suspend his sentence.

Even had Flynn been sentenced Trump doesn't have the authority to suspend the sentence. He can pardon him but sentences are acts of the court and separate from the Executive branch.

Those lost files can be found in the same bin where Hellary deleted her server e mails. What a crock of used toilet paper.

Trump needs to fire the entire top tier of the FBI. Or rather Barr needs to.

“The fbi doesn’t lose records.”

Well, there WAS that time 900 or so FBI records (of NOT Friends of Bill) disappeared for a while.

In the White House.

During Bill Clinton’s presidency.

AKA Filegate.

If you want to see just how crooked the FBI is, watch the movie Richard Jewell.

It will make you furious.

Did something new just happen?

I thought requested FBI files by the defense were reported “missing” months ago.

Not really. He can commute a sentence if he wants. He can also nullify it with a pardon. A president can commute it which essentially is even more powerful than suspending it.

I would rather that the judge finish this case before the president exercises his powers. The judge might dismiss. That would be awesome, much more so that Trump issuing pardon. The judge might sentence him to jail time or probation. That’s when the president should act.

“””I don’t think he has been sentenced yet. I would hope that the Federal Judge overseeing the case would at least castigate the FBI and dismiss the case with prejudice. “”””””””

That is what I would like to see. Let the fbi be exposed for the corrupt pricks they are. A pardon would let them escape and give the impression that President Trump just let Flynn escape 50 years in prison for massive collusion with the Russians.

The agents responsible for losing the records need to be disciplined and summarily fired with prejudice, no future opportunity for either federal government work or for any federal contractor,

““EVEN DEMOCRATS”.”

Funny you should say that. Andrew Gillum was caught naked with an OD’d male prostitute in a hotel room. He was too stoned to communicate with the first responders. Drugs, crystal meth, were on the bed and floor. What happened? Police kept welfare checking him until he could go home. There will be no investigation and no charges. Can you imagine if the situation was reversed and Ron DeSantis had lost the election? DeSantis beat Gillum for governor by a scant 38,000 votes. But Democrats? Oh, no, they get welfare checks until they can drive themselves home. If it was a Republican, we would be getting constant updates on CNN. (”DeSantis just went out to his mailbox. An hour ago a pizza was delivered. We bring you the delivery man now, live.”)

...Trump doesn't have the authority to suspend the sentence.

I respectfully disagree.

For example, President Trump has commuted the sentence of Rod Blagojevich. He was not pardoned.

Also, WRT Scooter Libby: "After denial of Libby's bond by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, President Bush commuted the prison term portion of Libby's sentence on July 2, 2007, leaving in place the felony conviction, the $250,000 fine, and the terms of probation (supervised release)."
