What Is Consistent about Mitt Romney? His condescension to the public and esteem of himself
National Review ^ | February 7, 2020 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

Posted on 02/07/2020 5:55:16 AM PST by C19fan

I’ve never understood Mitt Romney. I’ve admired him, even warmed to him. The post-election documentary Mitt presents Mitt Romney as a man who is high in conscientiousness; he chases after the tiniest litter in his presence. It shows a winning self-effacing side of the man; it shows him admiring his father more than himself. In that film, he takes the slings and arrows of public life with some grace. He’s been on the right side of various controversies in his Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was, by everyone’s accounts, a sterling business partner who worked hard and intelligently building a business in a high-stakes field.

He looks into the mirror and states "Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the most sanctimonious of them all." I bet Romneybots like Jay Nordlinger and David French are mad at Mr. Dougherty for stating the Emperor Has No Clothes.

Only an intellectual could write a long piece like this when it is clear to everyone else that Romney is simply an ambitious politician who will say anything to get elected.

Romney can say whatever he wants at this point. He’s 71 and Senator for life from Utah.

“He was, by everyone’s accounts, a sterling business partner who worked hard and intelligently building a business in a high-stakes field”.

Seriously? He was the destroyer of companies and people for his own profits sake. He and Steyer are birds of a feather - hostile takeover artists who care nothing for the thousands of poor souls whose jobs were stolen. He never built a damn thing. His one effort that could be construed as a positive would be his administration of the 3003 Winter Olympics.

Somebody posted a pic with the ghost of Mccain behind him saying “I’m back”

He is going to be a traitor to the GOP until he dies in office.

He’s a proud man that was evaluated and not chosen by Donald Trump. So, he’s ticked.

Michael Brendan Dougherty could have saved himself and everyone a lot of time and just stated what the average American thinks of Mitt. That is, Mitt is an a$$hole. If you want to add a few adjectives, he’s an elitist, pompous a$$hole. There, three words, just like the author’s name.

NRO slots are sinecures for Rich Lowry’s favored inner circle. But even Lowry would have issue with one sentence articles.

I have yet to see actual evidence of Mitt’s “brilliance” or financial acumen. His business career has been that of a financial engineer rather than the CEO of an actual company where tangible results and a track record matter. I suspect his father was an enabling factor in his “rise” in the consulting business.

He raised his boys to be very service oriented. 5 healthy boys and not one ever in the military. Why do that when you can flip others properties and make a lot of money.

My point is just that. He’s a corporate flipper, not a real CEO who has demonstrated his management chops in the competitive world of business I seriously doubt that Mitt has what it takes to actually lead and manage a functioning company.

His daddy is the real reason for Mitt’s “success”, not unlike Hunter Biden.

I read all of the comment’s and not one mention’s his worst act . While he held the Governor’s in Massachusetts he signed into state law Masscare . This was a precursor to the AAFCA . It is consuming the Massachusetts budget more and more every year and leaving the residents of Massachusetts (I was raised on Cape Cod) with the HIGHEST insurance rates in the nation and the TOP down bureaucracy siphon off millions while implementing the idiotic rules that are constantly revised...just as predicted . This carpetbagging scumbag is a true enemy and it is now up to his constituents to void his access to influence . I truly loathe this man and even more so his use of God , An abomination to our Father . He is a self-serving turncoat and a subversive element .

Excellent point, and one I mentioned over & over again on FR 2007-2012 as one among many reasons why NOT to vote for Romney:

Ya REALLY want to vote for a wanna-be 'god?'
