The Holy Bibile has made it clear that the least we are to do is give one tenth of our increase annually. If we earn nothing we give nothing, if we earn a million we give 100,000 to God, or His representative on earth whomever you believe that to be. That does not preclude other offerings, Malachi specifically mentions “Tithes and offerings”. Certainly Tithing is the minimum. In this country by the time you pay tithes and taxes you are luck to have half your increase.

Ah well....one gains honor with God thru faith and righteousness...there are Rich people who will see heaven and there are poor who won’t...and vice versa.

By elevating the poor by treating the middle and upper class dishonorably leads to disaster for a whole nation....we saw that in Russia and Venezuela. Yes we aren’t to hinder the poor in their pleadings for justice...but you don’t give the poor justice by denying the powerful justice as well. That’s how civil wars break out and that is how the poor end up...poorer!

Only if they are joining a religious order such as the Franciscans and take a vow of poverty.

Otherwise, the rich MUST give alms to charities who help the poor, however scripture does not require that they just hand over their money i.e., to the state to distribute.

Ecclesiasticus 12:3

A great antidote to Sider’s book is “Productive Christians In An Age Of Guilt Manipulators” by Dave Chilton.

My opinion is that wealth is power and you use power for good. If you give it all away you don’t have it any more. Sometimes it may be the right thing to do but it requires discernment and it is not any command of God that we have no capital. Proverbs is rife with wisdom concerning building wealth so it is obviously a good thing to do - but not to idolize and like any other good thing can become a snare.

What are the social responsibilities of wealthy Christians? Must they prove their loyalty to the Lord by selling their possessions and giving to the poor?

The rich are not sacrificial animals. In a rational society, where there is the God-given right to private property, they have the natural right or ownership which means the right to decide the use and disposal of their own property.

Taxation is theft

"The rich are people as well as the poor; that they have rights as well as the poor; that they have as clear and as sacred a right to their large property as others have to theirs which is smaller; that oppression to them is as possible and as wicked as to others."

John Adams

Wrong question. Do RICH LIBERALS GIVE ALL THEIR money away? They are so quick to tell everyone else to give, but I don’t see them living in tents, on the street.

Yeah, sure, poor poverty stricken Christians can help lots of folks... Oh, wait...

Fact is middle income American Christians are the most generous segment of our society. Rich leftists enjoy telling everyone else to give their wealth away but that is a scheme from hell.

God loves a cheerful giver, but the poor cannot give anything. While I enjoy a modicum of financial success, my focus is not on wealth accumulation but wealth leverage- giving some of it away is a blessing ( to both the giver and the receivers).

Let’s take care of our families first, then reach out and help others in need, then to the world in general as a ministry of hope and faith in what’s really important.

There are good ministries out there that steward donation well and maximize the output for Gods glory.

Blessed to be a blessing.

Just as soon as all these rich American ASS'es (Acolytes of Socialist Societies) house every illegal Alien and turn over 90% of their wealth to them.

1) The OT example is that you leave gleanings in the field for the poor to help themselves.

I test people. I am responsible to give them an opportunity, not to spoon feed them. The testing takes some time but seldom do I have takers. A Christian do gooder organization is within one block of my rental property. I asked them if they had anyone that wanted to work. They looked at me like that was the most outrageous thing they had ever heard. They exist to give free govt stuff.

2) The call is to help widows and orphans, those that can not help them selves. Again, too much free stuff.

A tenant of mine told me about a tough situation. A illegal single mother with a down syndrome son. The old model we had was personal sponsorship. I could lower the rent, my tenant indicated he would get involved, and that there were others to help. MY one rule in this endearer was no free govt stuff. The churches got involved with free govt before we did.

3) Clever for the kingdom. We are called to invest for the kingdom. There is a lot of evidence saying we should help fellow Christians first, not the world at large.

Luk 16:9 Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.

4) The trouble is no one needs help right now. We don’t need each other, just the government. But there will come a time so keep searching, testing, and practicing helping others.

5) Do personal, not institutional helping.

The year of Jubilee is interesting, and mysterious . Not much evidence of it being implemented because it would affect the wealthy, the concentration of wealth.

The concentration of wealth and power is dangerous. The US is the major experiment and only here can one move up and down the wealth/social/power ladder. Any way that is the way it used to be.

I have said I am against big business and have been called anti capitalist. But big business and big government go hand in hand. libs are against big business, conservatives against big government.

If man won’t implement the year of jubilee, the Invisible Hand does, but not always on a regular basis.

However, the main purpose of Jubilee seems to be not “forgiveness of debt” or “redistribution of land” or “income equality” but the preservation of the prosperity in the Promised Land that God had promised His people.

“Why” is always a good question. Why would God set up jubilee?

Lev 25:10 Set this year apart as holy, a time to proclaim freedom throughout the land for all who live there. It will be a jubilee year for you, when each of you may return to the land that belonged to your ancestors and return to your own clan.

There are some key words there that eyes can go to. What words did the reader key in on?

freedom, jubilee, return to land, ancestors.

Did anyone’s eyes stop at the word holy? Right there is the reason for the jubilee. Holy is one of those words we can only begin to understand but never fully understand, but yet worthy of much thinking.
