Twenty-five years after apartheid, black people cannot live and work in this small South African city
October in Orania can be charming. When the sun sets, long ribbons of burnt orange settle on the horizon. The flies and mosquitoes that come with the summer’s oppressive heat haven’t arrived yet. It is Magdalene Kleynhans’ favourite time of year. “You can sit outside until late into the night,” says the businesswoman, whose family spends much of their time outdoors. Her children fish from the banks of the Orange River whenever they choose. Kleynhans leaves the house unlocked. “It’s a good life. It’s a big privilege.”
But there is much more to this small Northern Cape town than the bucolic ideal painted by Kleynhans. Incredibly, 25 years after the fall of apartheid, Orania is a place for white people only.

Kleynhans runs one of Orania’s biggest enterprises: a call centre whose business is recruiting and retaining members for Solidariteit, a trade union primarily for Afrikaner workers, and Afriforum, a self-styled “civil rights” movement. Afriforum recently met with US president Donald Trump’s administration and Tucker Carlson of Fox Nows to tell them that Afrikaners are facing a widely discredited genocide. Both have made extensive investments in Orania’s construction boom. Oranians claim the town is a cultural project, not a racial one. Only Afrikaners are allowed to live and work there to preserve Afrikaner culture, the argument goes.

Then it won’t be long before Orania is attacked by hordes of blacks enraged at being “exploited.” See, in the communist world, one man’s success must always come at another man’s expense.
The blacks want to chop them up and take what they have. Whites in Africa have seen it firsthand. I don’t blame the Afrikaners one bit for excluding them.

They’ve already done that and in a few years all that’s left is rubble. They took over a fully functional state that was the jewel of Africa and in a decade or so they were starving.
Liberals blame the downfall of cities and countries on racism and white flight. Then when white people return they blame gentrification on societal ills. It begs the question, in the minds of liberals can minorities make it on their own?

After three decades as a quiet backwater, Orania is booming.
As always, the headline lies. The article proves the headline to be a lie.
Truth: In SA, Whites are the victims of violence and theft. The government favors taking property from Whitey, and bammy went there specifically to encourage them to do just that.
Wondering if there is a cause/effect relationship between these two things: “Kleynhans leaves the house unlocked” “a place for white people only”.
Well we can’t have this. These people are doomed. It just kills the Gaurdian that this place is so successful and nice while the rest of SA has gone to hell. I like how they manged to work Trump and FNC into the story.

Orania proves that racial separation is the answer to the otherwise constant racial strife.

Not according to the article. They are protected by the South African constitution.
But of course you’re right. That constitution can be changed, or ignored, with the wave of a hand. A prosperous minority surrounded by a poor and angry majority...that never works out well in the long run.

During the white purges of SA, the first thing they did, was to kill the white mans’ dogs.
They exist at the mercy of the ANC.
But for now, the ANC must see some benefit to Orania‘s continued existence.
I think your sarcasm tag was dropped somehow. The South African white folk I know say otherwise regarding "ethnic cleansing".

They make it sound like the lush orchards just popped up out of nowhere.
The difference between whites and blacks. Whites make the desert lush, blacks on the other hand... Look at Zimbabwe and now south Africa.
