Moochelle is correct we got the hell out of the South Side of Chicago in the 60’s and 70’s. Now everything from 95th to Cermak from the Dan Ryan to the Lake is a war zone. You did a great job with that area. If not for the University of Chicago buffer at 55th, the entire South Side would be burnt to the ground.

Years ago I met a woman in Boston. She had grown up in Detroit. Boston at the time was undergoing an enormous real estate boom. I mentioned that my parents had bought a house long ago for $80,000 and at that point, years later, it was worth significantly more.
She replied that her parents in Detroit had bought a house for $35,000. And had recently sold it for $5000. I didn’t think she was serious, but she assured me that she was. Blew my mind.
