The Democrats Aren’t Wrong About Impeachment

As I have said before, I think the claim that President Trump’s phone conversation with President Zelensky of Ukraine somehow constitutes an impeachable offense is ridiculous. But impeachment is a political act, not a legal one, and the Democrats’ motives are entirely political. They think that impeaching President Trump will cast a pall of discredit over him and weaken his chances for re-election in 2020. I think that calculation is probably right.

We will see a great deal of impeachment-related poll data in the months to come, but this early survey, reported in the New York Post, suggests that the Democrats are on the right track:

More than 60 percent of Americans believe President Trump’s phone call to the leader of Ukraine asking him to launch an investigation into a 2020 Democratic political rival is “serious,” a poll released Sunday shows.

Of course, that isn’t what President Trump asked Zelensky to do. But reporting on this issue has been even worse than usual.

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Serious. It is easy to state that the majority of the “people” polled could not even begin to accurately explain the situation or what actually happened and could not tell us even who the real players are what the motivations are.

Polls these days are paid to generate a result desired by the poll funders. It is very easy to get a poll to say just about anything. The anti-Trump forces are running UNHINGED and continue to say ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING to support their lies and desires.

Let the RATS live by their lies and run on the “poll data” they generate. It will benefit America in the long run.

Yes. But the Constitution gives the House the sole power to define just what those terms mean. As an example, Benjamin Franklin once remarked that a President could legally be impeached just for being rude!

He is correct that for the slightly less nutty Dems that is the goal. The rank & file Dems truly believe he will be impeached and convicted.

How successful this will be in damaging his electability is very much an unknown and certainly not a given when one considers the non stop assaults for the last 3 years and his current approval ratings.
