everyone already has the option to die....stop eating, stop drinking, stop taking meds, or just take too many meds.....

we don't give a flip about it.....

but no, you just had to involve the public and its vast tax base so you can feel so superior and righteous.....

its a very sad thing to have a terminal disease but we generally give the terminally ill people in this country vast amounts of drugs and have organizations like hospice that will help usher you along your way...

but we have to have another stinking law and another stinking "right" that we must abide by....

So the government of New Jersey will allow a bunch of people from this state to kill themselves.

I'm scratching my head here, trying to understand what the downside of this is supposed to be.

Whether or not suicide is legal becomes irrelevant once you succeed. My objection is to those who pretend that this is medical care and demand that my tax dollars and insurance premiums subsidize their immoral choices.

The original Hippocratic Oath includes the statements: “I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrong-doing. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion.”

This has been part of the social wars between good and evil for thousands of years. Until the past few decades, we had the energy and courage to win against the malice and the bullying of the far left. We need to step up our game again.

". . . I had the ability to speak out, to represent a group of patients who are terminally ill and don’t have the strength,” Boyce said.

Susan,

Terminally ill patients don't have the strength to fight against suicide doctors.

Boyce, 56, has a slow-moving and incurable disease that will eventually leave her unable to breathe and render her immune system ineffectual.

Really, we all do. Nobody is getting out of this place alive.

My problem is with involving the state in the process at all.

people already do this with morphine or similar drug and as others say the person chooses to stop eating and especially drinking water - all available to people now. NO need to make more laws or anything.

The goal of the left is to force us all to pay for euthanasia, abortion, aids treatment, and sex-”change” operations.

Wow. The terminally ill could go to jail if they kill themselves. 😮

When a person enters Hospice they are given enough morphine to end their lives anyway if they choose to. Some do but most - like my wife- don’t.

I am 87 years old and I like the idea of assisted suicide, had a friend who died at 95 and he wished he could have left earlier...…..where did Jesus specifically condemn suicide, god know he had enough occasions to specifically condemn specifically given the Roman Wars that were going on in his day.

Here's the start of the slippery slope. So, terminally ill people can now use the state to commit suicide.

Next step: People who may NOT be terminally ill, but whose quality of life (as defined by their caregiver, ie: some government official) now declares it an act of mercy (and a big $$$ savings to the state) to terminate this poor, suffering individual and save them the pain (and the state the $$$).

Who makes the call? The individual? The family (on their behalf)? or the state (for potentially very evil and unjust reasons)?

The camel's nose is now in the tent...

The State, the hospital, and greedy family members will soon be making that decision for you soon.

My Biology Prof. was mad at me for stating this in 1974 during a discussion on legalizing abortion. He dropped me a full letter grade for holding this view.

It didn't seem to affect my career any.....

Credit my Mom for making the point that this is the natural result of disrespect for human life.

Does New Jersey send terminally ill people who commit suicide to prison?

If I had to live in New Jersey, I’d consider suicide too.

How long before the elderly and sick are pressured by “loving” family members (aka beneficiaries of the estate) to hurry up and do it? Calling grand pa and grand ma selfish for wanting to lay around and dry up the pie.

Guilt trip the elderly or sick. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you. Progressive compassion.

You already can have yourself killed through an Advance Health Care directive or Living Will. And under some circumstances, doctors can perform euthanasia under the rubric of palliative sedation. “Technically,” palliative sedation isn’t euthanasia because they’re administering pain meds with the intent of relieving suffering, not killing, it’s just that there was so much pain that the amount given also happened to be a lethal dose.
