United Airlines said one of its jet blew “multiple” tires on Saturday upon landing at Newark Liberty International Airport. Flights were delayed by more than five hours at the busy United hub airport that serves the New York City area.

The tires on the left landing gear of the Boeing 757 blew after Flight 627 from Denver landed at Newark around 1 p.m. said the Federal Aviation Administration.

United Airlines said some customers had minor injuries and that they refused medical attention.

If all tires on one side blew it was not a problem caused by tires. More likely brake lockup as was surmised here.

"...damage is even visible inside the cabin where the nose gear came up into the cabin."

This is a bit more serious than blown tires - landing hard enough to drive the landing gear up through the cabin structure is no small feat.

A passenger reported the damage is even visible inside the cabin where the nose gear came up into the cabin.

And the Airline wants Me to return My Tray and Seat back to the closed and upright position before Landing for My Safety.

What’s that Sir ? The Cockpit Table has pushed up through the floor right next to You ? OK, Thank You and I’ll let the Flight Engineer know about it.

In the 1980s, I was waiting for my connecting flight at LAX, and noticed the terminal getting quite crowded.

A Brazilian 747 blew 8 tires (out of 18, iirc), blocking one or more gates, in particular, a Paris via Newark bound 747. The CSR announced the situation, and said people could board, but they didn’t know when they’d be able to depart.

Most, if not all, took the chance, and there was breathing room in the terminal again.

A short time later, they were on their way.

Saw a heading at OANN on Boeing wanting to reduce testing of new aircraft.

Funny thing is, they have to write a special repair for something like this - not normally included in structural repair manuals.
(Fuselage damage from landing gear is always unique - each event is a "stand-alone" repair, similar to "crash-damage").

Probably the flight shouldn’t have originated in Denver.

Or a vicious cross-wind landing.

That is closer to a controlled crash landing than just a hard landing. The plane is probably a total loss.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.
