Warren, Clyburn to Introduce Bill to Forgive Billions in Student Loan Debt
Breitbart ^ | 6/14/19 | Penny Starr

Posted on 06/15/2019 11:14:54 AM PDT by david1292

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) announced on Thursday that they will introduce legislation in the House and Senate that would forgive up to $50,000 of each students’ college loan debt, which would help about 42 million people, according to a press release posted on Warren’s Senate website.

“The legislation will significantly lessen the student debt crisis and help tackle the racial wealth gap,” the headline of the press release announcing the bills said.

Warren, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and Clyburn, House Majority Whip, both claim that the bill, if it becomes law, will help about 95 percent of student borrowers and cancel debt entirely for some 75 percent of borrowers.

“The student debt crisis is real and it’s crushing millions of people — especially people of color,” Warren said in the announcement. “It’s time to decide: Are we going to be a country that only helps the rich and powerful get richer and more powerful, or are we going to be a country that invests in its future?”

Bullshit! If you borrowed $60k for an "Affican Woman's Studies" degree from Wattsamatta U, then you got what you paid for. YOU got what YOU paid for. Not me, not my children, not my grandchildren.

Letting you off the hook for your bad choices only insures you won't learn anything from them, just like your BS (and I don't mean Bachelor of Science) degree.

I am glad I paid them off.

But with stagnant wages and increasing college debt, something was going to snap. $500K for an engineering degree that pays starting $60K is like having a house payment while living in a one bedroom B&B

“especially people of color”
You add those words when your idea is corrupt and would never be accepted otherwise.

I would almost be willing to do this, IF:

1) The Department of Education is permanently shut down.
2) All federal loans for education are ended. Permanently.
3) A constitutional amendment is passed giving parents the right to educate their children as they see fit. No more hamstringing of home-schooling, religious schools or charter schools by state gov’ts.

How about, the US Department of Education go after all these Well-Endowed private and public institutions of higher learning, to whom the payments for these services was made by student loans, and hold THEM liable as essentially co-signers for the now defaulted loan?

After all, most of these institutions have profited greatly over the years with greatly inflated tuition and fee collections, because there was no cost competition for the students who enrolled there.

These colleges and universities have handed out a LOT of crap paperwork cunningly disguised as “degrees”, with which it was impossible for the graduate to find employment.

I try to tell my daughter that, but she won’t listen. She accuses me of trying to force her to major in something she doesn’t like to pay the bills easier. She’s had it too easy because my wife gives her everything she wants.

Turning the United States into a communist theme park is a bad investment.

My kid paid off all of his within a year. Almost $30K.

He doesn’t feel dumb at all, he’s well employed, independent and debt free.

To African Americans......did you really think you would get reparations? See how quickly they can introduce a bill when they are looking at a large bloc of voters? And yeah, reparations are being “studied”. Wake up, you’ve been studied and deemed not worthy....,snowflakes are more valuable.
