ALBANY — The tax filings of President Trump and all public elected officials in New York will be fair game for congressional Democrats under a new law.

The state Legislature on Wednesday approved a bill that allows the state Department of Taxation and Finance to release tax returns of thousands of New Yorkers upon an official request by Congress.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo previously said he would support the idea.

“This bill stands for a principle of transparency in regards to top officials’ tax returns and recognizing that shedding light on conflicts, potential conflicts of interest is for a public purpose and also stands for working collegially with our colleagues in the federal legislature so they are able to effectuate their power,” Assembly sponsor David Buchwald (D-Westchester) told reporters after the vote.

The law would apply to any elected official who filed a New York tax return, not just Trump.

I’m not sure that State Law can negate Federal Privacy Laws in this case.

State laws can't override federal laws. But New York is going to unseal Trump's state tax returns.

for a “specific and legitimate purpose.”

Is a witch hunt a specific and legitimate purpose?

Is trying to come up with a reason to impeach a president a “specific and legitimate purpose”?

“How can they do it, without permission of the taxpayer?”

Well, by totalitarian state legislation.

If they could already do it without the taxpayer’s permission the legislation wouldn’t be need.

Yeah — that’s what they say but that’s not why they passed this law. IF there is proof they passed this law to go after Trump I would think there are possible grounds to sue.

If not we have one screwed up system where States can just pass laws to go after their political enemies.

” Is it legal to pass a law targeting one person?”
No, it isn’t.

We know that; but the treasonous Democrat domestic enemies of our constitutional republic obey no law in their pursuit of tyranny.

Senate Committees need to launch fishing expeditions against every well-connected Democrat in the Empire State.

Don’t states require a copy of the 1040 or at least the first 2 pages.\, and Schedule A to verify Fed AGI and Itemized Deductions

Which States use as starting points to get State taxable income?

Expost facto laws are unconstitutional.
Notice how it applies to “all” elected officials.
As soon as they are done with Trump’s tax records they will pasd another law to reverse the law they passed now.

Well, yeah; but it CLEARLY targets Trump.
Only a total idiot could possibly believe otherwise.

“The Senate should request the tax returns of every elected Democrat in the state of New York, their spouses’ and children’s tax returns.”

Well, the good governor hasn’t signed it yet. I doubt that the elite power brokers of NY are very happy about having their taxes made public. But, we shall see...
