The harshest critics of the United States are the best arguments for it. Take the latest iconic critic, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She has a predictable list of complaints against America.
Fortunately for her, her family got to mainland America as quickly as possible. They apparently assumed that US institutions gave them economic opportunities unknown in Puerto Rico.
The fact that her father was an architect, that AOC herself received scholarships to attend pricey Boston University and that she was elected to Congress bore out her parents’ assumptions of a meritocracy, not a caste state.
The same could be said of two other chronic ankle-biters of America, newly elected Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. Their families correctly assumed that Muslims would enjoy a higher standard of living and greater political freedom as minority citizens of the United States than as part of the majority in either Somalia or the Palestinian territories.
Omar and Tlaib know that if they were to redirect animus to the governments and societies of Somalia or the Palestinian territories, their freedoms, if not their very lives, would be in danger.
Transfer US paradigms from frigid Minnesota to balmy Somalia, and Omar would never have left Mogadishu. Put Somalian protocols in play in Minneapolis, and she and her family would never have set foot in America.
The reason she seems unable to acknowledge that simple truth is also Western to the core — once a pampered Westerner, she gains the leisure, affluence and security to critique the very system that provided these boons.

Worth clicking to read the rest of the article. I agree completely. However the fact that American culture tolerates those who hate it in the interest of free expression does not mean that the America haters are exempt from criticism. On the contrary, criticism is essential. Which is why the left tries to shut it down with accusations of racism. Nor does it mean we should import more.

They don’t fit here. There have been immigrants who have fit (eventually), but the further they are from Western European, the odder the fit, and less likely it takes. Sure, exceptions, etc ... Whatever. The huge waves of Italians and Irish took a couple of generations, and they came from cultures that weren’t really all that different, and the Irish even sort of spoke English. America was founded by a people on principles that are natural to those people. The further you get from those people, overall, the odder the fit.
The key is wanting to fit!
If you want to fit into America you can be from Mars.
Those three want America to fit into the dysfunctional cultures they came from.
Sorry to say WE are soon going to be the ones who don’t fit.

Are you a senior citizen costing the new AOC socialist medicare system too much money because you keep refusing the euthanasia option? Do you refuse a self driving car?

I cancelled NetFlix when the Obummers became a lead story above all other stories. I hope I never see another picture of Barack or Michael. Such a travesty at all levels, not only their relationship but Barack’s relationship to the USA. Treasonous.

My Spanish is nonexistent. One of my sons took some Chinese, but he only made B’s. Well, at least I have some ancestors who spoke something kinda close to Arabic, but they learned English before they even came here, and Arabic was brought to them by the sword.

This feels like a trick question. The top action taken by white nationalists in the formation of America was the Declaration of Independence. Those fellows were probably also white supreemists, judging by how many of them owned non-white slaves. Even the ones who were vehemently opposed to that sort of thing wouldn’t have been at all egalitarian/liberal by today’s standards.
My kids can name the important points of all of it. They also know that they will be a targeted minority in the near future. They also know what generation ushered/let it all in. So do their friends, from what I can tell. GenZ is not going to be acceptable to the older generations; at least not the white kids.
Tell me about it, I couldn’t believe it. WHAT the hell has this woman done to warrant a documentary on Netflix? How many military heroes have they done documentary’s on? How many police officers, firemen? How about all those cops who were assassinated in Texas following Obamas war on cops? This is absolutely disgusting how the left poisons so many parts of our media today, and I did just cancel them and wrote them just what I am writing here. This is outrageous, it really is. This woman with the intellect of a 2 year old being celebrated. How about doing a documentary on Candace Owens who is verbally harassed and threatened on a daily basis because she refuses to bend the knee to the democrap plantation?

Will our America (people talking amiably at family and friends gatherings, respect for each others’ beliefs) ever come back?
Or like bell bottom pants and 8 track cartridges in cars is that America forever in the past?
One thing, the hippies and antiwar young people largely became either middle class conformists or money hungry yuppies later on. Some are still around as grey pony tailed oldsters voting socialist for Bernie, though.
Maybe some Dems could be changed? I’m not holding my breath.
