Otto Warmbier's parents push back on Trump over their son's death
Axios ^ | 3/1/19 | Orion Rummler

Otto Warmbier's parents have spoken out after President Trump stated that he took North Korean leader Kim Jong-un "at his word" after Kim denied any hand in Warmbier's death, which occurred after the American college student spent 17 months in captivity in North Korea and was returned to the U.S. in 2017 in a vegetative state.

"We have been respectful during this summit process. Now we must speak out. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for the death of our son Otto. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity. No excuses or lavish praise can change that."

I certainly do remember “Midnight Express”-—saw it when it was first released-——scary stuff.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to find out you’re right about that.

If we’ve learned nothing else; we know to never trust a leftist, a communist, the deep state, and any politician.

It's one thing to express grief over innocent victims. It's another thing altogether when it's someone that is dead set on becoming a Darwin Award winner. It's still sad but the parent's anger is misplaced. It's easier to be a useful idiot to be trotted around by democrats than to admit that they failed to teach their kid any common sense. There are some places where one should just not go.

As far as this being a gaffe by Trump, if it wasn't this, the press would just be crucifying him over something else just as vigorously. If he didn't say anything bad for a day, they would have just made something up.

The American doctor who went to NK and brought Otto home changed his diaper on plane) said his body was in good shape. He said he would have fudged medical records to NK just to get him out but didn’t have to. He had no bed sores. The dated brain scans showed this happened day after the trial.

Trump said what he said about Otto Warmbier's death in order to keep from alienating Kim Jung Un in order to eventually get a nuclear agreement for America.

Warmbier initially made the mistake of going to a Socialist Country headed by a dictator and committed a crime.. stealing.

Sorry Otto, I'm NOT a KIM fan.. but you should've been smarter for your own benefit.

I hope that neither you nor Trump will have to know the agony of a parent whose child has been murdered in cold blood!

I do...And I still support Trump 100%...I understand what Trump is doing and what he has to do...The President would love to put a stick of dynamite in the Nork's mouth and light the fuse...And maybe some day he will...But for now, we have to trust his diplomacy...

He also honored Otto and family at a previous SOTU. Trump did more for Otto than any other person on earth outside of his family. Ungrateful act here. They should have handled this privately if they had a problem.

I can't believe for a minute that Otto and his parents are not liberals...And as we have seen on a National scale, no matter what President does for them, they'll still attack him at every opportunity...

Did the doctor say he was on a respirator? I don’t understand how “stopping all life support” caused him to die so quickly otherwise.

If Warmbler were not a thief, he would not have been in the pen. What, exactly was little Otto doing in NK? Were he not there, he could be alive and well in mommy’s basement today.

Never heard that. Day after trial. Could it be a failed self hanging?

He had been on a respirator at one point as he had a tracheotomy. But was not on a respirator when he was removed from the plane. The parents had his feeding tube removed.

There is a very long article in GQ. Lots of details about his medical condition.

Out of respect for the parents, the doctor who did the visual post exam waited. But then contradicted what the parents said. His body had been very well cared for. No evidence of torture.

If you noticed after the trial he could not walk unassisted.

I’m the GQ article he was never in prison but more of a guest house and then entered the Friendship hospital after the trial.

No, me neither but Trump is responsible for many many people’s saftey and if he has to dance a wee bit getting it done that is how it has to be.

Trump walked from the deal to be sure that complete verified denuclearization is accomplished but if he can accomplish that he will have plenty of time to make the point that NK needs to improve it’s human rights actions. To squander the leverage of the carrot of joining the world stage and economic prosperity to scold this dictator would be foolish in the extreme.

It’s a lot for this family to bear in any case. May God great them peace.

To all the neigh-sayers: ditto on the above from JayGalt

Maybe! The Donald has his ways, which I sometimes worry about. But it seems there is a method to his madness!

The family of this idiot who “toured” NK is ungracious and misguided. They did raise someone with bad judgment. It is on them, if anything.
