Otto Warmbier's parents have spoken out after President Trump stated that he took North Korean leader Kim Jong-un "at his word" after Kim denied any hand in Warmbier's death, which occurred after the American college student spent 17 months in captivity in North Korea and was returned to the U.S. in 2017 in a vegetative state.
"We have been respectful during this summit process. Now we must speak out. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for the death of our son Otto. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity. No excuses or lavish praise can change that."
There were hard core left wing (Stalinist oriented! - Yes! they exist!) US groups who sponsored “highly controlled” tours into North Korea. I don’t know if it’s still going on.
His parents asked that his feeding tube be removed.
I read that before his parents saw him, they heard an inhuman like scream. Not sure if it came from the plane or hospital.

I believe there was some speculation that Otto may have tried to commit suicide and caused his own injuries. I read a in depth article on this, he actually got good treatment in NK for his injuries and at least Trump got him out, Obama left him hanging like he did others that were in foreign jails.
I don’t think this guy had any political agenda. He just went!

That used to be called tuning him up or adjusting his attitude. Not sure what they call it now.

The student could have gone to the NK Ministry of Tourism and offered to pay for a poster. The Ministry probably would have loaded him up with a truckload if he paid in American dollars.
He erred in stealing a poster from a brutal communist dictatorship.
Further, his parents should have bought him ransom and kidnapping travel insurance. These private companies staff experts who are skilled in negotiating the release of waylaid travelers.
I appreciate that the Warmbiers are grieving but fact....
Trump got their son back to them
and fact...they are bring used by the media to attack the POTUS in the midst of negotiating with possibly the world’s most dangerously unstable political leader who still possesses nuclear weapons
Otto is beyond help. They need to step out of this controversy right now, in the best interest of helping Trump and America and millions of others in the region. That would be the best legacy they could give their son. Not demanding that Trump insult Kim, cause him to lose face, and both men lose this historic opportunity, Which is what the democrat state media want.

You’re the one bashing Trump. Why are you surprised that it’s raining on you?
Why? Because the majority of responses here see things differently than you?
There are more than a few “reasoned conversation” responses.
The parents should be saying nothing PUBLICLY so close to the negotiations. They strike me as ungrateful. Trump did something for them that no one else did. And it’s possible that Kim did not know about Ottos treatment. I don’t know if Hirohito knew that the Bird was torturing Louis Zamperini.
TRUMP is focused on the good of America, not meeting two peoples emotional needs.

Their little darling shouldn’t have been there. He knew the rules but chose to break them.
He did not steal anything The story was ludicrous. The North Koreans said some church person offered him something like $10,000 to steal it? Bizarre lie. Why anyone would believe the North is beyond me. The kid was naive and stupid to go there, but he was framed. I have no doubt.
Perhaps, but we don't know what the whole of the US got in return. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Otto was not a bad person. And he was very bright from what I’ve read. Back in the day an 18 year old was like a 30 year old today. Otto was adventurous. But a 21 year old these days is immature imo. He had no idea what he was getting into. Naive about the real world and the risks.
His parents should have had an autopsy performed. I would want to know. All the Obama admin told them was to keep a low profile and not to say Otto was Jewish. That was their mistake as the autopsy might have revealed something.
I never like being misinterpreted, but especially when it comes to Otto Warmbier and his great family. Remember, I got Otto out along with three others.
