Andrew Cuomo: ‘We Did Not Have Hurricanes In The State Of New York.’ Yes, They Did(facepalm)

Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters that New York did not have hurricanes in the past. Cuomo also said Buffalo did not get 7 feet of snow, saying such events were part of a “new reality.” However, Cuomo is absolutely incorrect on both those counts.

New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo made a series of gaffes during a press conference Wednesday and claimed a “new reality” is bringing about weather the state has never before experienced, including hurricanes and massive snowfall.

That’s false. Cuomo’s claims that New York never experienced massive storms and snowfall before this “new reality” — referring to global warming — contradict historical data that are readily available to the public, even governors.

“We are getting more and more storms with a higher level of frequency. That is not a political statement. That is a fact,” Cuomo said at a press conference Wednesday to discuss the state’s response to severe winter weather.

“We did not have hurricanes in the state of New York,” Cuomo said. “We did not have superstorms in the state of New York.”

My great uncle had a beach house in Connecticut on Long Island Sound. It was completely destroyed by the 1938 hurricane. The hurricane devastated parts of New York.

I’m old enough to remember Hurricane Donna which hit our part of Queens in the very early 60s.
Yep, I was a young teen back then and remember it well.
Three years later we moved to Rochester and I distinctly remember my mother giving our hurricane lamps to a neighbor just before we left.

Cuomo is absolutely incorrect on both those counts.

That makes three things Cuomo is dead wrong about.

Mr. RightField and I rode out Hurricane Irene in 2011 in Ilion, NY, right next to the Erie Canal.
After the storm passed, the Thruway was blocked for days from the debris.

"... upstate New York in the 1960s ..."

A friend years ago described life living on a farm in upstate New York. During the winter he had to tend to the stock. He left the farmhouse carrying a long pole so that he could probe into the snow to find the barn.

I remember a blizzard in Brentwood, February 1961.

The street we were on didn’t get plowed for two days, and when it did get plowed they used a bulldozer.

So to avoid the fact that this a-hole is no better than Adolph Hitler as a murderous tyrant, he tries to spin into the climate change talking points?

You didn’t need your lamps for the blizzards in Rochester?

Did you have power?

We were at the summer house and lost power for days.

Cuomo is right. I really didn't live through the Blizzard of '66 in Fayetteville, NY. It was actually a balmy 72F with trade winds wafting through town, blossoms scenting the night air. It was a lovely time.
The Blizzard of '66, in Syracuse: 'It was really the storm of the century'

Temperatures on Jan. 26, 1966 three days before the blizzard began, dipped to a record low of minus 26 degrees. Some 42.3 inches of snow fell on Syracuse from Jan. 29 to Feb. 1, 1966, but most of it came down Jan. 30 and 31, 1966.

Snow fell almost continually in Syracuse from 7:30 a.m. Jan. 30 to 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 31, dumping 17.2 inches and 22 inches, respectively, on those days. Oswego received 102.4 inches of snow during the storm.

My best educated guess is that newspaper art departments created fake photographs and wrote bogus articles. Kind of like how NASA faked the moon landing. Here's proof of how they doctored the photos...

I remember a hurricane way back when I was in first grade (1958) and many more there after. What the hell is that demon smoking?

The son of one of my Dad’s closest friends took off walking to a girl friend’s house in a blizzard in upstate NY around 1965. He never arrived. Froze to death stuck on a barbed wire fence.

I don’t think we lost power. I have a clear memory that my grandparents came to our house - perhaps the eye of the storm was closer to where they lived so they came to stay with us. I remember sitting on the sofa with them looking out the window. I was six.

We lost power for weeks with Sandy. And so did all the stores around us.

Yep. I remember those weather events too. Cuomo is freaking nuts. Aside from being a liberal he is totally mentally ill and a bold faced liar.

Glad you didn't lose any power!

We did and the reason I remember this hurricane SO vividly, is because my mother "cooked" over a can of sterno, which made whatever she cooked ( cans of soup especially) taste like sterno and was disgusting!

Sandy was far worse! We lost power, for weeks, up here, from that storm. At least we have a generator.
