House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, citing the ongoing government shutdown, urged President Donald Trump in a letter Wednesday to either reschedule his State of the Union address set for later this month or to deliver it in writing to Congress.
Pelosi, D-Calif., in her letter noted "security concerns" related to the partial shutdown's effect on the U.S. Secret Service, which provides security for the president's annual in-person address to a joint session of Congress.
"Both the U.S. Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security have not been funded for 26 days now — with critical departments hamstrung by furloughs," wrote Pelosi.
"And since the start of modern budgeting in Fiscal Year 1977, a State of the Union address has never been delivered during a government shutdown," wrote the speaker.
The letter comes as Pelosi and other Democratic leaders in Congress have been ocked in a political battle of wills with Trump over his demand for funding for a wall on the border with Mexico.
Trump is scheduled to deliver the State of the Union address on Jan. 29.

She wants to delay it until after she has her next Botox session. She doesn’t want to look as she did the last time she was on national TV with Chucky.
President Trump should give the address at the border, right in front of a rape tree, surrounded by CBP officers. He should explain to America what a rape tree is, which should be enough to shock and horrify average Americans (maybe not Democrats).
Methinks she's afraid because she knows he'll use it as a bully pulpit to showcase how vile the Dems are.
They need to GET that they lost the Presidential election and they have to move their agenda as the party that lost the WH…. It’s called ‘POLITICS’

Since this is a Constitutionally Mandated responsibility and it’s to a joint session of Congress, I doubt she has and authority to cancel Trump’s address. Maybe others here know all the legal ramifications of such a request.
OK. So Congress is not secure, but the border is? Let him give it at a location where the Democrats are not invited.

Giving the address from the border is not a bad idea. Trump can give the address to the nation. He doesn’t have to address Congress in person. Or he could give it to the Senate.

There's nothing critical about the big 3 Es- education, environment and energy. Lock the doors and sell off the furnishings, after firing the help.
