A cousin in California who is occasionally active in GOP circles has long been a fan of Vietnamese immigrants who fled to the US after the war. He describes them as hardworking, entrepreneurial, and family oriented conservatives. Criminality and liberalism usually emerge in the first and second generation and from those who came to the US while young children.
Cambodians as well. I worked with several of what were then referred to as boat people in the 80s. Most were the sole survivors of their entire family. I cannot imagine the resilience it would require to lose everyone and everything you have, and yet struggle to continue on with life. That kind of person truly appreciates the greatness of America and the blessings it has provided them, and they return it in kind.
I know many and I have nothing bad to say about any of them.
A good friend's long time girlfriend came to the US from Vietnam as a young child with her parents.
She went on to get a college degree and a good job with Volkswagen. Put her son thru college and he's now an executive producer with the Discovery Channel.......
Back in 2003 I went on a ski trip with my nephew and some of his fellow medical school buddies. One of them, Vu, his parents were doctors who fled Vietnam and were relocated to North Dakota by being sponsored by a church group there......
