President Donald Trump is getting backlash from his own party over his administrations decision to try to deport some immigrants who entered the United States during and after the Vietnam War.

For example, among my brother's circle of friends is Orestes, a Cuban who was a talented MiG pilot and decorated officer in Castro's air force. One day he stole a MiG and flew to Homestead AFB in South Florida. About a year later, his wife and their two young sons avoided Castro's watching police one night and set flashlights on a rural road in Cuba. Orestes soon landed in a borrowed private plane and took them all on a quick flight to Florida and freedom.
Orestes and his wife both work and are successful and prosperous, while his two sons have begun families and professional careers. They are all proud US citizens, Republicans, and adamant conservatives.
There’s been, what, 9 mass opportunities for green card holders to become citizens? At least 3 opportunities for those who don’t have a green card to get a green card and move on to full citizenship?
If you’ve lived here for 30+ years and haven’t bothered to change your citizenship and have been convicted of a crime, have fun in Vietnam.
It’s typical of the media to make an out of proportion issue which only applies to a handful and portray it applying to a group.
But! Why are they here ?
What does bother me is there is no recall here of the government shutdown during Nixon’s presidency caused by the democrats refusal to stand by the Viet Nam effort to remain independent by refusing them air support and arm supolies which would have prevented that disgraceful evacuation of Saigon and resulted their resettlement here.
What’s a California Republican?
Aren’t we extinct already?
Screw them. If they show their gratitude to America by becoming a criminal, Deport their ass to Vietnam. And in the spirit of full disclosure a friend of mine had a cousin that was a cop in Southern California murdered by a Vietnamese gang member.
This is nothing but a set up. If he backs down on this very small group, then they’d have him on the hook with the caravans.
I know many and I have nothing bad to say about any of them.
A good friend's long time girlfriend came to the US from Vietnam as a young child with her parents.
She went on to get a college degree and a good job with Volkswagen. Put her son thru college and he's now an executive producer with the Discovery Channel.......
Back in 2003 I went on a ski trip with my nephew and some of his fellow medical school buddies. One of them, Vu, his parents were doctors who fled Vietnam and were relocated to North Dakota by being sponsored by a church group there......
I understand in rural Cuba it’s common to sometimes encounter big stupid “memorials” in the smoother, longer, straight roads.
It’s actually to try to thwart exactly the type of unauthorized small aircraft landings you described, I heard.
Trump faces backlash from California Republicans(both of them) over move to deport Vietnamese refugees
I doubt it. They are probably in their teens and 20’s.
You may be right — if there was a 1995 date is a cut-off I would probably be fine with it. Reading different sources that sounds more like what was actually happening.
Rally for The Troops in 2003 I saw almost as many flags for the Republic of Vietnam as United States. People who lost everything but still showed up.
Sorry, whole thing is still touchy I guess.
I saw the headline and thought Trump is wrong in this one but then read the piece. Crime convictions. Yes.
Not from this one. (But then, I am planning to leave.)
Oz, a friend of mine, was a West Point graduate and Vietnam veteran familiar with most of East Asia. He admired the energy and hard work of Koreans but found them hard to like, yet liked the Vietnamese for their resilience and dedication to friends and family.
Koreans are an angry people.
True. Koreans have a national psychology of being aggrieved underdogs, caught between China and Japan and preyed upon by both. This is part of what has kept the Kim regime in power, while also spurring South Korea’s extraordinary economic rise.
BACKLASH????
There’s no backlash in CA. It is an openly hostile “frontlash.”
Are there more than ten people in California who LIKE President Trump.
