A married mother of two and meteorologist for Fox 2 Detroit died by suicide, the station said Thursday.

Jessica Starr, 35, who lived in Novi, Michigan, is survived by her husband, Dan, and her two children, a 5-year-old son named Noah, and a 3-year-old daughter named Riley, the Springfield News-Sun reported. The station did not provide more details about her death.

Prior to her death, Starr spoke out publicly about her recovery from Lasik surgery, which she had done in October. She was out of work for several weeks and struggled with dry eye following the procedure, reported the Detroit Free Press.

Starr posted a video on her Facebook page on Nov. 13 explaining her absence. She announced that she was back at work but still in the recovery process and dealing with blurry vision.

I doubt that her vision was the core reason for her actions. It’s always deeper than the apparent.

So many celebreties are rich and famous and beautiful, but miserable. You and I are poor and unknown and ugly. Aren’t you glad we’re happy?

I agree. But not all eye surgery goes well. I had PRK a lot time ago and ended up with corneal haze. It took another laser surgery (by a more competent doctor) to remove it. For a while there, I had extremely poor vision in one eye with no guarantee it would ever improve. After all that time, money and worry, my vision in that eye was worse than what it was before the initial surgery.

I heard it on the local news and it is really tragic. One has to wonder if her participation on social media and receiving negative comments may have led to her suicide.

Social media is evil and anyone with a sensitive psyche or questions of self worth should not be involved in that media.

A few years ago there was one in my family and it ripped his mother’s guts out. She was the one who found him and he died by hanging. In a case like this I can often have a lot more sympathy for the decedent’s family than the decedent, especially when little kids are involved.

I wear glasses, but no way would I mess with elective eye surgery. Still, even with side effects, she should have kept going for the family who loves her.

Considering the amount of time you spend on this forum, how happy ARE you? If not for internet forums such as this, who would you interact with?

There had to be something else besides the injured eye.
Maybe ongoing depression.
We all have our cross to bear, if that is how it feels to the bearer.

**Look at the photo of her colleges sitting on a couch and speaking kind words about her. I’m almost positive that the young black guy with a bald head is the same one my Detroit sisters used to watch on their TV. If it’s the same guy, he has Vitiligo. Vitiligo is a disease that causes the loss of skin pigmentation in blotches.

This fellow has the condition severely on his face and on his hands. Notice his hands are light pink.
He stopped putting on as much face make up some years ago, hoping the viewing audience could accept him as is with a few light blotches. The Detroit views did accept him graciously. This is a disease that happens in many black families, so there was already some level of understanding about his predicament.

How tragic, especially at this time of the year. I feel so sad for the family, and especially the children.

I can often have a lot more sympathy for the decedent’s family than the decedent,

Threads such as this ultimately bring out the worst in the puritans who hang out here because they have no where else to go..........

I don't cast judgement on any suicide victim but only have sorrow for them. Only God has the right to judge.........
