The major takeaway from the 40-page sentencing memorandum filed by federal prosecutors Friday for Michael Cohen, President Trumps former personal attorney, is this: The president is very likely to be indicted on a charge of violating federal campaign finance laws.
It has been obvious for some time that President Trump is the principal subject of the investigation still being conducted by the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Cohen earlier pleaded guilty to multiple counts of business and tax fraud, violating campaign finance law, and making false statements to Congress regarding unsuccessful efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.
Yes, Cohen has stated he did the hands-on work in orchestrating hush-money payments to two women who claim to have had sexual liaisons with Trump many years ago (liaisons Trump denies).
But when Cohen pleaded guilty in August, prosecutors induced him to make an extraordinary statement in open court: the payments to the women were made in coordination with and at the direction of the candidate for federal office Donald Trump.
Prosecutors would not have done this if the president was not on their radar screen. Indeed, if the president was not implicated, I suspect they would not have prosecuted Cohen for campaign finance violations at all. Those charges had a negligible impact on the jail time Cohen faces, which is driven by the more serious offenses of tax and financial institution fraud, involving millions of dollars. ..."
In marked contrast, though, when it was discovered that Barack Obamas 2008 presidential campaign was guilty of violations involving nearly $2 million an amount that dwarfs the $280,000 in Cohens case the Obama Justice Department decided not to prosecute. Instead, the matter was quietly disposed of by a $375,000 fine by the Federal Election Commission.

Hear hear - if this cant be solved politically its time for the people to right the ship.
The biggest Army ever is sitting at home readying for Christmas.
It’s not Manhattan DA. It’s office of USA for Southern District of NY.
I have my list - do you have yours?
Prosecutors, even the brilliant ones, don't really get the political implications of spitting in the eye of 63 million pissed-off voters.
They have a mentality that's suited to "rule by gunthug".
When 10 million Trumpkins put on the #GiletJaunes, little Andy and his pals from Prick BwaHaHa's former orifice in SDNY will soil themselves - because they don't have enough gunthugs to put down that many members of the REAL Resistance.
McCarthy has more than enough sources, espcially in the Southern District, to know what he is talking about. What Trump’s lawyers should do, if indictment is handed down, is claim selective prosecution and point to BOTH the Obama campaign and the d’Souza cases as evidence of partisan prosecution.
When they crashed Cohens office and ignored atty/client privelage
Recall in the Cohen pros statement, they did not consider him to be in a attorney client situation with Cohen. Of course that is from their perspective. That idiot Cohen tried to cover his ass and by not fighting the search warrant because he thought he could gain a favorable agreement, he just rolled over.
However, regardless of what they allege about the privilege, the salient point is the privilege extends to Trump’s idea of what cohen was. He should immediately put on notice both muleass and the USA, he will fight any assertion that he and cohen were not in an attorney client relationship. Furthermore, their handling of the bimbo extortion were not violations of any law so therefore they did not abridge the privilege.
I'm not worried.
Remember what president Barry the Skidmark did with the Tea Party and the IRS.
If the Deep Staters regain control of the government, they WILL use our voting records and other records to come after all of us.
Our choice is simple.
It's us or them.
See post 29 and contemplate what I am saying. These lawyers are all going to find themselves in a world of hurt. Overthrowing the US government by armed force or illegal conspiracy is still sedition and treason which is punishable by death and life in prison. None of these traitors are going to get tried in the civilian legal system so they have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting off.
This is exactly what the Democrats intend to do. They don't care if the indictment goes anywhere, it probably won't. But, it will give the House Democrats the ammo that they need to impeach the President. They will do so.
See post 29 and 51.
Trump's #GiletsOranges army wasn't ready to fight a year ago.
The Uniparty and its Media has been slapping us across the face with the gauntlet and spitting in our faces for two years.
We now understand that It's Us Or Them.
If they get control of the government, they'll do the Deplorables like they did the Tea Party.
#ItsUsOrThem
This is jack boot crush time!
“McCarthy has to lay off the grain alcohol.”
Or Jameson or Bushmills Black Bush.
“The president is very likely to be indicted on a charge of violating federal campaign finance laws”
Oh, wow.
Like Hillary did and Obama did and walked away with little fines as punishment?
McCarthy is getting too used to TV time. He should just shut up.
This is Rush’s boy! It will be interesting to see if he endorses McCarthy’s comments.
I certainly agree that they have overreached, but they committed themselves when they bought the insurance policy to destroy Trump. Their only possible escape is what they are doing: impeach Trump, intimidate weak politicians, and destroy anyone who stands in their way.
I believe that we will prevail, but it is going to get ugly, and most Americans, especially those in suburbia, are indifferent and clueless about what is going on.
So as we all know; there’s one set of laws for democrat politicians and another set of laws for republican pols. Probably the same for the lay people on the street too. We already know leftist Judges don’t follow our laws or our Constitution. They have their own set very different from ours.
What happened to America and when did it go away? Rhetorical question of course. We know the left has been “transforming” America for decades but it did go into high gear when obambam was elected.
