"I am like, 'hey, we are fighting for universal care, for tuition-free public college, we are fighting for a living wage,' and you see that kind of defense mechanism kind of come down."
But in America at large, such politics are pretty radical. She is a Democratic Socialist in the vein of failed 2016 presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders, on whose campaign she worked.
Ocasio-Cortez has compared the fight against climate change to the fight against Nazi Germany in World War II, calling it a "major existential threat" and has likened electing Democrats to ending slavery.
The right has branded her politics "dangerous" and she has also taken hits from centrist stalwarts, former senator Joe Lieberman saying her primary win seemed "likely to hurt Congress, America and the Democratic Party."

Apparently being a “rock star” doesn’t require any brains.
On this one, I would lay down pretty good odds that Crowley will win. As for O-C? My prediction is that she goes to MSNBC on a one-year contract (maybe a weekend show) and comes back in 2020 to run against Joe Crowley once again.
Is there any poll or report showing that the voters will vote for him despite losing Democrat line and not campaigning?
Do many of his supporters in June reject her?
Of course many who voted for him November 2016 , skipped voting last June.
The Democrats are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.
As usual.
I was actually thinking, she could go do something else, but I will restrain myself, and not say it. 😁
I don’t think there is any bottom.
I am of two minds about Cortez/Crowley. I think Crowley was effective for the Democrats. Ocasio-Cortez is a walking, talking ditz. Every time she opens her mouth Republicans open their wallets and donate money to their favorite candidate. She lies, but her lies are stupid, pointless and intended just to get her through whatever question was asked. She’s the ideal opponent for Republicans. Crowley is smart and dangerous. But stupid represents a danger all its own.
I suspect that Crowley will get close to half the district’s votes even without running a campaign. Firstly because he represents a broader swath of the public and secondly because every thinking person who has listened to Ocasio-Cortez will run away from her. Crowley has obviously been instructed (by whom I can’t say) to stand down. It’s just not normal for a political brawler like him to take a dive in the final round; which is what he is doing. So, only the wildly stupid or uninformed would vote for Cortez. What percentage that is will be debated until after the count.
Most democrats do better if they do not speak in the run up to elections.
She really IS amazingly stupid ... even for a democrat.
I’ve been scouring the internets for ANY polling data. Along with Mueller, I’ve found bupkis.
I moved from NY a long time ago and I’d rather take a stick in the eye than ever think about moving back there. It’s a hopeless cause. Too many radical Leftists, rich liberals that are insulated from all the destructive liberal policies they support, union employees that think and talk like Conservatives but will never vote against the gravy train that pays them, foreigners that are backfilling all the NYers that are migrating and ruining the rest of the country by bringing their liberal BS w/ them to their new homes, and then all the illegals that are encouraged and allowed to vote.
But, even though I don’t have any skin in the game up there, I hope she wins. The more maniacs like her, in Congress, the better. She, and those like her, will just add more and more people to the, Walkaway Movement. She’s insane. People know it. She’ll get to DC and won’t know what hit her. Toss in the cat fights that will ensue when she’s competing w/ Pelosi, Warren, Harris, Waters, etc for some camera time, it’ll make for some fun tv. They’ll be trying to out-Leftist each other, pushing all of them closer and closer to the edge.
No, being a rock star usually just requires drugs, loud noise and alcohol, in fact. Brains are not required.

Or, perhaps Crowley is playing it cool. He knows if he openly challenged Ocasio-Cortez, the story would switch from her lunatic remarks to how he doesn’t respect the democratic process or women. If he holds back and wins the election anyway, he becomes the reluctant leader. The people have spoken, etc, etc. He takes her out without ever challenging her openly. And there is a good chance he might as the race is a three-way split including the Republican in the race.
Crowley may have a chance but for the democrats here, "demography is destiny".
I predict that O-C goes on The View as a regular panelist, instead of MSNBC. I don’t see her not “winning” plenty of TV time, no matter how she does next Tuesday.
“Crowley may have a chance but for the democrats here, “demography is destiny”. “
Since day one I’ve been agog at Democratic old, rich white people working to increase diversity and saying things like demography is destiny. Do they not realize they are creating their own demise? It’s like the Arian super men created by the Nazis, not one of whom were blond, tall or good looking. How did they imagine that would work out if they were successful?
As for right now, I have heard several of the Democratic Socialists, none of whom have yet been elected, instructing those old, rich white people that come the revolution they will be expected to step aside and hand over power to the new kids on the block. I am wagering that the old, rich white people are working hard behind the scenes to make certain none of the potential usurpers gets elected.
How can someone so dumb be a political rockstar? Geez, people are idiots!
When we took Eric Cantor out in a primary he got himself a massive raise as a lobbyist. Crowley is likely looking at the same lucrative future, which lowers the incentive to complain quite a bit.
