Press Release on Michigan Poll
Mitchell Research via Real Clear Politics ^ | Oct 10, 2018 | Steve Mitchell

Posted on 10/11/2018 11:58:39 AM PDT by edwinland

Former state Sen. Gretchen Whitmer (46%) leads Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette (38%) in the race for governor while U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (51%) leads African-American businessman John James (42%) according to a statewide poll commissioned by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and conducted by Mitchell Research Communications of likely voters in the upcoming November Election.

...

“We are seeing the impact of the brutal battle over Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation in this polling. In our mid-September poll, we had Stabenow leading James by 13% and Whitmer leading Schuette by 10%. Other polls have had the margin in both races much wider.

...

The Democrat’s 13% lead in the generic Congressional ballot question ... has been cut to just 5%, a huge change in less than a month.

“Whitmer and Stabenow are in a good position today, however the race is tightening and with a month to go, a great deal can happen. As late as mid-October 2016, Hillary Clinton led Donald Trump by double digits in Michigan according to the RealClearPolitics.com averages. This race is far from over at this time,” Mitchell concluded.

Illinois has looked liked a loss for several months now.

Because they just aren't going bankrupt fast enough?

If the hearing drove moderates away, then they have serious head problems. Just remember moderates, that may well be you on the stand of inquisition next.

I can name a dozen moderates who either registered or made sure their registration to vote was up to date so they could vote Donnelly out here in Indiana because of his Kavanaugh vote. Some had never and some had not voted in decades. (Factory workers, truck drivers. Men and women) Some are just now getting jobs after years of low employment.
I’m sure rural Indiana is similar to other areas of country ! These people are not on any polling lists.

I’ve contributed as much as possible to his campaign in the last couple of weeks and I have no connection to Michigan whatsoever.

Interesting thing in the survey is on page 8 - James did best among 18-29 year old demographic.

Unions have paid too much money to buy Stabenow, they are not going to give that up lightly.

I have a hard time believing the Stabenow and James numbers. If 18% blacks now like Trump then how does James not pull a good percentage of Detroit over Stabenow???? Makes no sense. Trump should do a rally for him....I think that state is winnable....

Re: Michigan - Schuette has run one of THE WORST campaigns I’ve ever seen in all my years in politics. The guy has NO MESSAGE, NO PRESENCE, virtually zero ads and has not given the public a single reason to vote for him.

Whitmer, on the other hand, is telegenic/nice looking, has great, simple messaging (”let’s get it done!”) and is saturating the airwaves non-stop. I can see how the general public who doesn’t follow politics like I do could EASILY get pulled in by her. What they fail to realize is she’s Granholm 2.0 - with a sprinkle of Pelosi mixed in.

I’d love for James to win over Stabenow, but realistically don’t think the guy has a chance. My prediction is at least a 5-6% Stabenow win, and Governor will be even wider with Whitmer (much as I hate to say it) absolutely crushing Schuette.

Why we can’t seem to run decent candidates (Schuette is the WORST) is beyond me.

I’m a former Michigan resident (still a Michigander though) and spent some time there during the primary. Whitmer looks like a more strident and vindictive version of Jenny Granholm.

I really wanted the Indian guy with the great James Brown Hairstyle to win. He would have been more fun to ridicule.

The Flint water crisis didn’t help Snyder or the Republican party nor does our state’s highest Uninsured Motorist insurance that could have been eliminated.........As it stands now, the premium is going up again.

I have a close friend who lives in Northern Michigan and he says that Stabenow lawn signs are all over the place. I don't know if he is exaggerating or not but that area of the state was always hunting and fishing conservative until the southern Michigan liberals chose that area to move to and brought their liberal politics with them.........

True on this. The Flint water problems got very firmly hung on Republicans, and they didn’t do a good job of vocalizing what happeed.
