Whose phone “blows up” with calls? Those with hyperbole fuses for phone lines? How many people even have land lines to "come home to" anymore?
Strikes me as a line for the article that a committee of writers created out of whole cloth, to mix metaphors, a balloon one of the editors floated that is fizzling out because it's made of lead, flopping like a dead puffer fish that swelled up after swallowing a lead fish line sinker.
Hooh, boy, is that metaphor spinning around the mixer spewing gas.
