CEO of California's $350B pension fund has no degree
Updated: Sep 14, 2018 11:07 AM PDT
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The chief executive of California's $350 billion pension fund does not have a college degree and the revelation has startled some retirees.
Marcie Frost leads the California Public Employee Retirement System, the nation's largest retirement system.
The Sacramento Bee reports that Frost did not claim to have a college degree when she was hired to lead CalPERS in 2016, but Frost is under fire now after a blogger alleged Frost implied in her application and in a statement announcing her hiring that she was working on obtaining a college degree.
Blogger Susan Webber points out Frost said she was pursuing dual degrees at The Evergreen State College in Olympia when she applied to CalPERS but she had not taken any classes there since 2010.
Frost says she still intends to obtain a degree.
Wondering if California bosses needed a fall guy? Because everyone knows the state’s pension system is going broke. Not to cast doubt on the knowledge or expertise of this fall gal though. Neither she nor Mr. MBA can save a failing system.
“Frost says she still intends to obtain a degree.”
mail order?
“I have a friend with a PHD in economics who knew nothing about futures and options.”
So? One doesn’t need to know anything about futures and options to understand economics. In fact it is best to NOT touch options when it comes to managing money.
I’m pretty sure Bill Gates doesn’t have a degree, and he did OK.
There are several billionaires without college degrees.

A college degree is WAY overrated. Many companies have dropped the requirement for many positions which once required them.
In fact, some of the stupidest people I ever met had degrees.
It’s possible she could be CEO in a managerial sense, but have nothing to do with the actual investment selection and management.
Why is everyone assuming she is the one making investment choices. She is CEO and her job is probably just to collect a big check.
Seems to me as if that was admitting up front that she didn’t have said degree.
And it’s not like she’s engineering bridges.
“A degree from Evergreen is probably worse than no degree.”
LOL ! that was my reaction as well
I get it. If one has a strong and established track record to point to, it shouldn’t matter at that point. But was that how she got the job? Was it a requirement they glossed over? Or was there something about her background and career that otherwise checked all the right boxes?
Evergreen State is far-out school that is falling apart due to their far, far left practices. Not a good background for the head of a huge pension fund.
And the CA PUC Public Utilities Commission is about 6 people, perhaps 4 have Bach degrees, and 2 of them, none. They set electrical rates for everyone in the entire state.
The point is that Marcie Frost’s LinkedIn implies a college degree:

Better to have no degree than a degree from Evergreen State.
Bill Gates dropped out of college.
You don't.......But in today's world of both public and private sector employment, you don't even get an interview without a college degree........
So the real question here is, who was she screwing?
RE: CalPers “Fall guy” / girl - Bingo!
