Frustrated AMA adopts sweeping policies to cut gun violence

With frustration mounting over lawmakers’ inaction on gun control, the American Medical Association on Tuesday pressed for a ban on assault weapons and came out against arming teachers as a way to fight what it calls a public health crisis.

At its annual policymaking meeting, the nation’s largest physicians group bowed to unprecedented demands from doctor-members to take a stronger stand on gun violence — a problem the organizations says is as menacing as a lethal infectious disease.

The action comes against a backdrop of recurrent school shootings, everyday street violence in the nation’s inner cities, and rising U.S. suicide rates.

I finally gave the politically correct answer “No, I have no guns! Guns are scary and icky!” in a soy boy metrosexual tone.

"Heavens no, doctor, I can't stand guns. But I do carry a length of piano wire attached to two sticks at all times. Now, were there any other personally invasive questions you wanted to ask me?"

IIRC, the AMA only represents a small minority of doctors.

Only one third. And I think that’s just of the MDs. I don’t know what percentage of DOs are members.

I work in healthcare and they are responsible for the run away healthcare costs in this country. They have always been responsible but with no consequences because they donate to the ‘right’ politicians. This is a good way to deflect attention from their own incompetence, mismanagement, and of course greed.

and it is a closed system. Doctors will review other doctors to see if the medical error caused any harm. expect for the most flagrant or where the offending physician has no ‘political ‘power will other doctors go against one of their own. As in the similar story where the FBI was to investigate whether the FBI engaged in illegal acts.
When a patient dies the police are never involved unless another doctor (coroner) says it not a natural death. Most do not even make it to the coroner. Doctors are getting away with wrongful deaths all of the time.

They must mean”attempt” to cut “gun “ violence. How about some more laws to cut criminal assault violence? Always the law abiding who get the big baruta.

Doctors kill more people via mistakes every year than guns do in this country so maybe the NRA should push doctor control.

AMAss doesn’t see rising STD rates to be a problem, though.

Anti-abstinence, cross-sex hormone therapy for small children, hormonal birth control and abortions for 13 year old girls, teaching high school kids about fisting, removing criminal prosecution against those with AIDS who refuse to inform their potential and current sex partners, etc etc.

A gun isn’t a disease but liberalism is.

3,000 kids dead every day from abortion. Sometimes the mother dies from legal botched abortions too.

But a statistical anomaly from the criminally insane (and almost always a known wolf) deserves all of the attention.

Lock up the crazy folk. They aren’t legally accountable for their actions. Stop locking down the rest of society.

I pity the doctor who would ask a patient in Texas whether they have a gun in their home. “None of your d**n business,” would be one of the nicest answers.

"...soy boy metrosexual tone..."

They simply entered into the database that you own guns.
Calmly and unemotionally tell them you do NOT own guns.

Keep the data useless in case a President Chelsea Clinton is elected POTUS a decade from now.
Make the job of gungrabbers far more challenging wherever you have the opportunity.

"...I pity the doctor..."

No need to pity him, just provide him totally incorrect information to render their gungrabber databases inaccurate.

It is an outgrowth of the medieval guild. It exists to protect its domain, control its members, and attack its competitors - anyone who he described as alternative.

Keeping teachers unarmed does not make medical sense.

Since my statement was hypothetical they only hypothetically entered data into a database. :)

It just occurred to me that the wire could be secreted in a belt and the handles part of a belt buckle. Perhaps a very high test fishing line would be better in order to pass through metal detectors.

This highlights one of the unspoken objectives of Obamacare.

It was supposed to drive all the private insurance companies out of business. When there was no one except the gummint to turn to for health insurance (as was mandated by law), they were going to say that they couldn’t support the cost of treating gunshot wounds, therefore you would be denied coverage under Obamacare if you couldn’t prove you didn’t have any guns. So you would be obliged to get rid of all your guns or go to jail for failing to procure health insurance.

At which point they were going to say this did not violate the 2nd Amendment because it was entirely your decision to no longer own guns.
