Eight months after his communist social media postings and conduct caused a conservative media firestorm, 2nd Lieutenant Spenser Rapone (better known as "the commie cadet") is reportedly being processed out of the Army with the most severe type of military administrative discharge -- an "other than honorable discharge."

Rapone, you may recall, is the avowed Marxist and Antifa supporter who posted pictures of himself on social media promoting pro-communist messages and expressing an intention to infiltrate the U.S. military.

He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in May of 2016, and had been serving in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum in New York.

I was under the impression that you signed a contract with the military branch of service to attend their respective academies. If you drop out or leave after your sophomore year then they can bill you the cost. I would think they would do the same for the 4 or 6 years of after graduation service requirement.

Often, failure to complete the military service obligation for cause will result in a proceeding to determine if the person is liable for the cost of education.

The process of getting ridden of an unsuitable person takes time, and admin process.

It isn’t. An OTH is the worst administrative discharge. BCD and DD are punitive and can only be given at a court martial.

It is the most severe “administrative” discharge. Honorable, General and Other than honorable are all admin level discharges.

You are correct...that’s what I get for not reading the post thoroughly. All I saw was “discharge”. I stand much charginned and correct....I’m gonna go over there —> and try to look inconspicuous for a while.

“How the f##K did this communist scumbag even get accepted into West Point to begin with and which communist congressman sponsored him?”

If Obama was still in power then David Hogg could get appointed. But in the fog of war these types usually get fragged.

The congressman has supposedly expressed regret for the nomination.

However, unless things have changed since I went through it for Air Force, the main things they look at are academic aptitude and physical conditioning. As a rule, Congressional sponsors do not get to know you personally, they look at your test scores.

I think that SGLI coverage ends when a soldier is discharged/retired. I know that my SGLI coverage ended when I retired 25 years ago.

I went through the same process. The congressman who nominated me gave a test and nominated everyone who passed his test (generic aptitude test). Although, I suspect there are ways a congressman can signal a preference.

The OTHDis sometimes referred to as an administrative BCD because of the nature of conduct required to earn it and the stigma attached. A commissioned officer will not not receive a BCD at court martial. Dismissal is the punitive separation.

Rapone was appointed to the USMA from the ranks. He was an outstanding EM and had done a tour in Afghanistan. His radicalization seems to date from the summer after his second year when he was chosen for an intercultural trip to IndoPak with a leftist USMA prof.
