The service AND 'the White House' came to the conclusion that nixing the new units to cool food on the jet makes prudent fiscal sense, Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson wrote in a letter to Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., who sits on the Armed Services Committee.
Even with the understanding that the Air Force One mission brings with it unique requirements and challenges, a $24 million sole-source contract just didnt pass the smell test.....Clearly, the Air Force is making the right decision cancel the previously announced 'sole-source contract' and 'hit restart' on this process,
Boeing was awarded the contract to replace the aging refrigerators but has been notified of the cancellation, according to Wilson.

McCain has been in bed with these BASTARD government contractors for decades, these contracts go through major campaign donations to McCain and the rest in the pockets of the vendors SCREW THEM!!!! FINALLY someone looking out for OUR MONEY!!!!!
Pretty sure someone could build a battle-hardened fridge that survives anything for UNDER $1 million ....
testing included
“Boeing should be shamed for for their outrageous bid on the refrigerators replacement.”
The price was probably figured prior to the election when it was assumed that Hillary would win and they had to include her kickback into the cost.
.
There are only two moving parts in a refrigeration unit: The starting relay (which is the part that fails 99% of the time) and the compressor.
Both are redily replaceable, just like in your car’s AC unit.
Looking after the people...a smart move.
A new 747 comes in a little under $400 million.
For that price it had better have an ice maker and crisping drawers.
The systems are two of five such chillers aboard Air Force One, which must
be equipped with a refrigeration capacity to handle 3,000 meals, according to
military specifications.
Thats enough to feed the president and 50 of his closest friends three meals
a day for three weeks. And thats assuming the president never indulged in his
favorite plane fare: fast food.
You obviously are unfamiliar with the systems that protect millions of dollars worth of foods in super markets.
They run endlessly for years, usually without ever needing repairs beyond the replacement of a starting relay (usually in the middle of the night).
lmao what about the doors and draws you know it has an ice maker more moving parts they also have fans more moving parts
They have a McDonalds express in the tail
A Sub Zero refrigerator is considered top of the line and many models are way more expensive.
I think McCain has been lying in a freezer for weeks
Sub Zeros are just like a high end automobile always in the shop
.
Wow, a 20 million dollar ice maqchine.
Now you have put this into perspective far better than I did.
Yes, he does accomplish that. Good call.
What president before him do you remember cancelling something like this?
I don’t recall it ever happening.
Under Reagan they used to uncover $3000 hammers or some such, but that was to play gotcha.
Here Trump is actually a part of the decision not to go with the contract.
That being said, this may cover several aircraft. Even then...
We recently bought a floor model for half that price - and it’s STILL smarter than me, LOL!
Abe Lincoln is frowning deep within the bowels of hell.
I was a contract engineering designer for the Air Force for many years. You would not belief some of the ridiculous requirements coming from the government. Who in hell is going to survive a crash even in a 16g “crashworthy” seat, lol. Another project I was on with about a 16 man build crew (previous approved and built gov’t contract) I was tasked with feeding 9 government safety engineers who produced nothing more than a safety axe as a total contribution after several weeks. Many, many stories of gov’t stupidity. Never underestimate entrenched gov’t bureaucrats for doing their job well, lol.
The specs on the bid aren’t “classified” these are refrigerators for food, that run on standard AC (or maybe DC, just like an RV—though those have ammonia as a coolant-not correct for inside an aircraft that could depressurize).
This would be interesting to have Boeing reveal, in fact, demand they reveal it. What size refrig’s are they talking about?
