The service AND 'the White House' came to the conclusion that nixing the new units to cool food on the jet makes prudent fiscal sense, Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson wrote in a letter to Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., who sits on the Armed Services Committee.
Even with the understanding that the Air Force One mission brings with it unique requirements and challenges, a $24 million sole-source contract just didnt pass the smell test.....Clearly, the Air Force is making the right decision cancel the previously announced 'sole-source contract' and 'hit restart' on this process,
Boeing was awarded the contract to replace the aging refrigerators but has been notified of the cancellation, according to Wilson.

Boeing just ran it by the Sams Club/Costco/Bestby and their best deals on refrigerators for Air Force One averaged $10,000-15,000, so $12,000 really works (for government) doesnt it.
Better check w/Obamas and Pelosi to find out what they pay for necessary items.
Obama wouldn’t have been satisfied with just one.
Trump’s da man...

They don’t pay for anything. Scrotum Face Soros gives them an allowance.
.
Chillers designed for unspecified long term storage of supplies for passengers and crew as part of security precautions for travel or a ‘doomsday’ event.
I know.......its billions he’s saving the taxpayer....and he’s given the people at the Vets room now to get the best deals too....before their hands were tied. One deal we saved over 3 million just because ‘time’ constraints were changed so they could get further bids.
Fancy fridges that wealthy people pay up to $10,000 for, are absurd. $24,000,000 for a jet fridge seems a little high. Get a Yeti cooler; get a custom built-in one if it makes you happy.
I love to watch the man operate......in doing so he reveals how contractors have been milking the tax payers.
I think it was special ordered in case Clinton won, the hide and move all the bodies.
.
Why can’t the present refrigerators be re-furbished?
Those planes are not very old.
Trump will not have to pay for it. The American tax payers will.
.
Way too believable!
.
I would imagine it would cost a great deal doing so as these are specialized units....heck they won’t even fix standard refrigerators anymore...
“Sole source” was a big No No when I was a contracting officer for the gummint.
Terrible how things were ran for decades. BO sure ad no concern of costs in fact appeared to enjoy spending as his wife did as well.
Current AF1s were delivered around 1990. Chilling systems are original.
Only one of two AF1 replacements will be made before 2025.

My son’s construction co. repairs specialized refrigeration units in restaurants routinely, even in the wee hours of the morning.
Its just not that difficult. Refrigeration parts are universal.

On top of this contract, Boeing gets more subsidies than any other corporation by far.
24 million for an entire plane seems more in line. It seems inconceivable that refrigerators could cost that much. I think that refrigerator tractor/trailer rigs cost less then 300K
Or that the refrigerator survive a crash same as the black boxes.
The GVT often puts stupid requirements such as these eliminating off the shelf items causing special construction and testing.
