Pretty sure someone could build a battle-hardened fridge that survives anything for UNDER $1 million ....

testing included

“Boeing should be shamed for for their outrageous bid on the refrigerators replacement.”

The price was probably figured prior to the election when it was assumed that Hillary would win and they had to include her kickback into the cost.

.
There are only two moving parts in a refrigeration unit: The starting relay (which is the part that fails 99% of the time) and the compressor.

Both are redily replaceable, just like in your car’s AC unit.

A new 747 comes in a little under $400 million.

For that price it had better have an ice maker and crisping drawers.

The systems are two of five such “chillers” aboard Air Force One, which must
be equipped with a refrigeration capacity to handle 3,000 meals, according to
military specifications.

That’s enough to feed the president and 50 of his closest friends three meals
a day for three weeks. And that’s assuming the president never indulged in his
favorite plane fare: fast food.

You obviously are unfamiliar with the systems that protect millions of dollars worth of foods in super markets.

They run endlessly for years, usually without ever needing repairs beyond the replacement of a starting relay (usually in the middle of the night).

A Sub Zero refrigerator is considered top of the line and many models are way more expensive.

Yes, he does accomplish that. Good call.

What president before him do you remember cancelling something like this?

I don’t recall it ever happening.

Under Reagan they used to uncover $3000 hammers or some such, but that was to play gotcha.

Here Trump is actually a part of the decision not to go with the contract.

That being said, this may cover several aircraft. Even then...

I was a contract engineering designer for the Air Force for many years. You would not belief some of the ridiculous requirements coming from the government. Who in hell is going to survive a crash even in a 16g “crashworthy” seat, lol. Another project I was on with about a 16 man build crew (previous approved and built gov’t contract) I was tasked with feeding 9 government safety engineers who produced nothing more than a safety axe as a total contribution after several weeks. Many, many stories of gov’t stupidity. Never underestimate entrenched gov’t bureaucrats for doing their job well, lol.

The specs on the bid aren’t “classified” these are refrigerators for food, that run on standard AC (or maybe DC, just like an RV—though those have ammonia as a coolant-not correct for inside an aircraft that could depressurize).

This would be interesting to have Boeing reveal, in fact, demand they reveal it. What size refrig’s are they talking about?
