Publix has been Florida’s favorite grocery chain for decades — but some shoppers are turning their backs on the store after learning it donated more than half a million dollars to gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam.
A handful of state advocacy groups have gone to social media — Twitter in particular — urging shoppers to "#BoycottPublix" this Memorial Day weekend.
Some people have decided to boycott the store indefinitely, or until it withdraws $670,000 it has given to Putnam, a longtime Republican politician who drew ire after he called himself "a proud NRA sellout" and opposed Florida’s new, stricter gun purchasing laws in the wake of the Parkland school shooting.

They believe there are more NRA haters out there than there are NRA supporters.
That *might* be true in New York City.
It is clearly *not true* in almost all of the rest of the Country.
The NRA has a much higher trust rating than Congress or the Media.
I live in the Tampa Bay area. Publix is pretty much the only grocery store in town. If I want to go to a Winn-Dixie (I don’t, the closest one is FILTHY) or Whole Foods, I have to pass by several Publix stores to get there.
I suspect this boycott will be useless.

Why not boycott the Southern Baptist Convention, Water Sports, and SEC Football; they’d have better luck.

This “boycott “ is going nowhere. Just a few lefties that are virtue signaling and will slink back into Publix in a few days or so. Walmart and Winn Dixie are not great alternatives and those boycotters know it.

Saw one tiny report on the news, don’t think it affected shoppers. Have not noticed any sort of slowdown and we have three Publix within comfortable driving distance, with a new store on the way.
Occasionally shopped for specific items at the Winn-Dixie (for some reason, red food coloring is way cheaper there) and the IGA. There’s a Lucky’s, a Fresh Market (and an evil Whole Foods) but they’re all more than an hour away.
Publix store brand chocolate mint ice cream is great and their all natural vanilla is similar to the old Breyers before Good Humor bought ‘em out. Hope they expand to Mississippi for my relatives.

I’ve stopped going because their prices are too high here in S.C. ALL the brand new stores have high prices.
Putnam is running well ahead in the governors race. DeSantis getting a huge amount of negative ads that are sticking.

In Florida it was a given that disgruntled “workers” would be protesting Publix. This is nothing new. Publix won’t relent, and I will continue to shop there

What the hell is wrong with marketers today? You DO NOT discuss religion or politics ... EVER!!! When you do, you instantly alienate 50% of your profit base. This is actually a litmus test for liberalism ... they make this political move “emotionally” ... not factually. And in the end, they deserve the pain they bring upon themselves. Just “shut up and sell groceries” ... we don’t give a damn what Publix execs think ... or any of the rest of them either. (JC Penny learned the hard way).
Wegman’s is the gold standard in shopping.
They should go national.

I love my local Publix. Very clean, great produce and meat depts and most of the staff have been there since I moved here 12 yrs ago. That says a lot.
I love the fact that they are NRA supporters.
