About that FBI ‘Source’
WSJ ^ | 5/10/18 | Kimberly A. Strassel

Posted on 05/10/2018 6:38:50 PM PDT by Brilliant

The Department of Justice lost its latest battle... when it allowed House Intelligence Committee members to view classified documents about a top-secret intelligence source that was part of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign. Even without official confirmation of that source’s name, the news so far holds some stunning implications...

Among them is that the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation outright hid critical information from a congressional investigation...

The bureau already has some explaining to do. Thanks to the... leakers, we know Mr. Nunes’s request deals with a “top secret intelligence source”... who is a U.S. citizen and who was involved in the Russia collusion probe... we might take this to mean that the FBI secretly had a person... to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.

This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting. It would also be a major escalation from the electronic surveillance we already knew about... Obama political appointees rampantly “unmasked” Trump campaign officials... Now we find it may have also been rolling out human intelligence, John Le Carré style, to infiltrate the Trump campaign...

When? The bureau has been doggedly sticking with its story that a tip in July 2016 about the drunken ramblings of George Papadopoulos launched its counterintelligence probe... When precisely was the Steele dossier delivered to the FBI? When precisely did the Papadopoulos information come in?

And to the point, when precisely was this human source operating? Because if it was prior to that infamous Papadopoulos tip, then the FBI isn’t being straight. It would mean the bureau was spying on the Trump campaign prior to that moment. And that in turn would mean that the FBI had been spurred to act on the basis of something other than a junior campaign aide’s loose lips...

Carter Page was my first thought and I had read something about that on Conservative Treehouse a while back, but he has done interviews expressing his dissatisfaction with the probe and his anger at being targeted. I’m kind of leaning away from it being him because of that.

Apropos of nothing, I highly recommend this @ChuckRossDC from March on a U.S. citizen with CIA and MI6 ties who for some weird reason started asking to meet with Trump affiliates about hacked Russian e-mails. https://t.co/pTGT1lPOmB—; Sean Davis (@seanmdav) May 9, 2018

Two months before the 2016 election, George Papadopoulos received a strange request for a meeting in London, one of several the young Trump adviser would be offered — and he would accept — during the presidential campaign.
The meeting request, which has not been reported until now, came from Stefan Halper, a foreign policy expert and Cambridge professor with connections to the CIA and its British counterpart, MI6.
Halper’s September 2016 outreach to Papadopoulos wasn’t his only contact with Trump campaign members. The 73-year-old professor, a veteran of three Republican administrations, met with two other campaign advisers, The Daily Caller News Foundation learned.
snip
Fitting with Papadopoulos’s theory of Halper’s outreach is the professor’s longstanding connections to both British and American intelligence agency officials. He also worked at the Department of State, Department of Defense, Department of Justice, and in three presidential administrations.
Halper is a close associate of Sir Richard Dearlove — the former MI6 chief.
In December 2016, Halper, Dearlove and espionage historian Peter Morland made international news when they announced they were leaving an organization called the Cambridge Intelligence Seminar due to concerns Russian operatives had infiltrated the group.

Trump gets to see the un-redacted documents, and he can declassify anything. So, no, it wasn’t Sessions or Paige, and though I’d bet it was Steve Bannon, I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t.

Well, that would certainly endear this person whom you suspect to the media. One who’s spouse is getting a bit noisy lately.

Domestic spying on political parties by the government in power is how Hitler got his start with the National Socialist Party. That is or should be strictly prohibited. The entire group running the CIA & FBI as well as those in the Obama administration & DNC should go to jail. We can’t have tolerate this as a country.

this is about bringing down our entire government for personal gain of power and the riches.

We have known about the evils of the former executive branch for a long time. The IRS scandals unmasked them. Time to act.

We knew that there was admin spying a long time ago. When Trump had to move his offices to Mara Lago. We knew, and he knew.

“Maybe Q will tell us.
I’m being sarcastic.”

Q will tell us to be patient, the victors will be gallient (or some shit like that), and that the mole is the evil man around Trump. LOL.

Reminds me of 9-11, when Bush was getting bashed non-stop by everyone because they had an intercept from Osama saying something like “We will strike the Infidel at a time when he is not ready, at a place he does not expect”.

According to the Bush-haters, ANY IDIOT would know that to mean that they intended to fly airplanes into the World Trade Center and other buildings on September 11, 2001. I mean, how could it not, no one was expecting a hit that day and no one expected the World Trade Center to be the target. Fits perfect. How could they have missed that?

Info here from Sundance is quite interesting. He suggests the mystery man is Stephan Halper. He is a Brit but has a house in Virginia.Lots of links in the article that are worth a read.

I’m leaning towards Halper too...anyone tied to 3 Republican Administrations (meaning at least one Bush, probably both) almost certainly HATES TRUMP...perfect guy to use to take Trump down.

It’s extremely frustrating that this highly important story is locked behind a paywall at WSJ.

Papadopolis....and another. I called him a mole....way back.

I'm guessing that there were 3 moles and one is connected to John McCain...even if he didn't know it.

The impression I had from reading the various stories though was that Trump had not seen the unredacted documents.
