About that FBI ‘Source’
WSJ ^ | 5/10/18 | Kimberly A. Strassel

Posted on 05/10/2018 6:38:50 PM PDT by Brilliant

The Department of Justice lost its latest battle... when it allowed House Intelligence Committee members to view classified documents about a top-secret intelligence source that was part of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign. Even without official confirmation of that source’s name, the news so far holds some stunning implications...

Among them is that the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation outright hid critical information from a congressional investigation...

The bureau already has some explaining to do. Thanks to the... leakers, we know Mr. Nunes’s request deals with a “top secret intelligence source”... who is a U.S. citizen and who was involved in the Russia collusion probe... we might take this to mean that the FBI secretly had a person... to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.

This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting. It would also be a major escalation from the electronic surveillance we already knew about... Obama political appointees rampantly “unmasked” Trump campaign officials... Now we find it may have also been rolling out human intelligence, John Le Carré style, to infiltrate the Trump campaign...

When? The bureau has been doggedly sticking with its story that a tip in July 2016 about the drunken ramblings of George Papadopoulos launched its counterintelligence probe... When precisely was the Steele dossier delivered to the FBI? When precisely did the Papadopoulos information come in?

And to the point, when precisely was this human source operating? Because if it was prior to that infamous Papadopoulos tip, then the FBI isn’t being straight. It would mean the bureau was spying on the Trump campaign prior to that moment. And that in turn would mean that the FBI had been spurred to act on the basis of something other than a junior campaign aide’s loose lips...

In the tv appearances I’ve seen Page in he comes across as stupid. However another interpretation is evasive. I don’t think he’s stupid. He graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis. He has masters degrees from Georgetown and NYU. He also has a PhD from the university of London. He speaks Russian. He’s not stupid.

The biggest problem with the theory that it’s Page I think is that he’s too easy to guess in order to be considered a secret source. And it’s difficult to see how his outting could expose intelligence assets since the Russians have already surely put him on their radar. But then the FBI has a history of using fake national security arguments to avoid disclosing information so maybe that is what it’s about.

It’s Page. The question is what are the implications?

The implications are, of course, that this proves that the FBI not only spied on an opposition political candidate in violation of the law, they also knowingly totally manufactured the the FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign.

Carter Page was the “Russian Spy” that the FBI used falsely justify the very expansive FISA warrant that allowed them to spy to spy on anyone and every organization Carter Page was associated with, including the Trump Campaign

If true, the FBI themselves recruited the supposed “Russian Spy” to actually spy on the Trump Campaign and used Page to obtain an overly broad FISA warrant that enabled the FB, the Obama Administration and the Hillary Clinton Campaign to spy on Donald Trump

Possibly. Or maybe it’s this professor who Papadopoulos met with in March 2016. The Australian diplomat story never really worked for me. Maybe the Australian diplomat was trotted out to give the professor cover.

And in 1962, as the head of the directorate of intelligence, the agency’s analytical branch, Ray Cline was among those who concluded that the Russians had installed offensive-missile bases in Cuba, and carried the news to President John F. Kennedy. Nuclear war was narrowly averted when Kennedy and the Soviet Premier, Nikita S. Khrushchev, reached an agreement that provided for the dismantling of the missiles.

Thirty years afterward, Mr. Cline, who grew a somewhat unruly beard later in life, stood whisker to whisker with Fidel Castro at a conference of historians in Havana and joked with the Cuban leader about the C.I.A.’s clumsy efforts to assassinate him in the 1960’s.

“What makes me almost certain that Wall Street titan turned Hollywood producer Steve Bannon is already working on that movie? :-)

Bannon was the one who found it suspicious that low-level campaign flunky Carter Page was sending emails up the chain of the Trump campaign saying he could arrange meetings with Russians.

The former naval officer Bannon found it ridiculous and cut off Page’s email access to the senior campaign members.

Steve Bannon smelled a rat. He dealt with it and isolated Carter Page.

Did the American-based Stasi then turn around with Plan B and use Carter Page as the tool to spy “two hops” with everyone he interfaced with via email?

Sure looks that way and that bombshell is just “one hop” from reaching the American public.

It’s going to get real ugly, real fast now. Desperation time as the Patriots are right over the target.

Strap in FRiends!

Maybe Paul Manfort - think about, help Trump win the nomination because Trump was a joke of a candidate and Hillary could easily defeat him

Believe what you want. Where are the facts? Was Page willing to sacrifice his reputation and future economic welfare to be branded as a spy/agent for the Russians? His life has been ruined and he has become something of a laughingstock. He was a useful idiot to establish the pretext for monitoring the Trump campaign and transition teams along with a sitting President.

“The Australian diplomat story never really worked for me. Maybe the Australian diplomat was trotted out to give the professor cover.”

That’s exactly been my thought. The Australian diplomat was incensed when his name came out in the new media and there were several quotes attributed to him.

Do not rule out the possibility that the agent is NOT an FBI plant, but equally likely a CIA covert operative in place.

Yep. I firmly believe that as well, MHGinTN.

When you look at the texts between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page (The FBI Texting Lovebirds) on Sept. 2, 2016, text exchange, Page writes “potus wants to know everything we’re doing.”

Sadly, I think you are right as well that it will never lead to that POSOTUS.

Carter Page is a CIA spook, and was planted to give reason to wiretap. He is the mole.

Haven’t heard much about him recently. Wonder why that is...

His name has already been unredacted in the DOJ documents, so he can’t be the confidential “source” that is referenced in these articles.

They planted a guy only so that they could spy on Trump?

Wow.

I called it that he was a Dem operative anyhow. Will have to go look that up.

I agree - his stumbling and bumbling “southern gentleman” dumb act is just that - and act. I’ll wager Sessions is a Mueller “team player.”

The Keebler elf is eventually going to get his ass handed to him - disgraceful, cowardly, back-stabbing SOB that he is.
