Ping

Anybody subsequently think this is a stupid thing? Offering money and travel vouchers while the passengers thought they were all going to die?

If they accept the vouchers and/or funds from SWA it releases SWA from liability in the event of a lawsuit.

Some guy on local DFW news already said he felt insulted by the offer.

And what did the pilot get? She deserves to be the CEO of Southwest after what she did..

And I bet way in the itty bitty fine print you agree not to sue Southwest if you accept anything from them.

Wow - 5K per - that’ll make up for what was lost when Southwest resisted doing engines inspections the way the FAA wanted them to......

Never heard of any other Airline compensating Passengers after an Inflight Emergency outside of offering them a Travel Voucher and Hotel Stay.

For their pain and suffering? I think SouthWest Airlines did the right and most compassionate thing.

Not.

I am amazed, reading through the posts here, the avarice and greed displayed. Southwest is probably the best airline in the business. They have an exemplary record, and their crew did their jobs professionally and got that damaged aircraft on the ground with no further loss of life. Yet here you all are, disparaging the airline for trying to do what is right and proper. Getting the $hit scared out of you isn't a million dollar deal. Southwest will have to cover a whole lot more with respect to the woman who died, but this was a one in a million catastrophic failure and unless it can be proven otherwise that's all it was. It's a shame that we've gotten to the point where every inconvenience is grounds for a lawsuit.

I think this was a preliminary payment to cover immediate costs that the passengers might have incurred.

Nothing will reduce the amount of money SW and their insurers will pay on this one.

Put a few more zeros in there and I might think about it, SWA is negligent by its admitting not inspecting by the FAA deadline.
