Imagine a newspaper editorial board calling a president "unfit to clean toilets" and then a few months later inviting that same president to write a guest column about the economy on that same editorial page. Say what?
And if you find that disconcerting so did Jake Novak, a CNBC senior columnist until March, who took USA Today to task for that on Tuesday. Novak reminded USA Today that he criticized them for going way over the line back in December right after their unhinged attack upon Trump. Then he wondered how that same editorial board could have Trump write a guest column this week sans an apology.
To get an idea how extreme USA Today acted in their editorial, let us take a look at their December 12, 2017 editorial, Will Trump's lows ever hit rock bottom? with its highly inflammatory subtitle, A president who'd all but call a senator a whore is unfit to clean toilets in Obama's presidential library or to shine George W. Bush's shoes: Our view.

“Bird cage liner like all the major papers.”
Those confining birds in close proximity to that rag should be rung up on animal cruelty charges.
Ditto for kitty litter boxes.
Double ditto for using it to get the dog’s attention.
I love that you rock conservatism in that cesspool. I do the same in Seattle. Btw fire a lib - for the hell of it
They’re right. Donald can afford to say “You’re hired” to toilet cleaners and many, many others.
Hillary, Nancy, and Chucky ARE fit to clean toilets. But they want to send housekeepers and janitors to the unemployment lines by demanding $15/hr for them.
Reagan was the Screen Actors Guild President, and the Governor of California. His management style was different than Trump. He hadn’t been a billionaire real estate investor and properties management person.
He didn’t have multi-layer international management teams for 40 years.
I am not adverse to your comments Trump vs Reagan. IMO < if we are honest, we can agree that Reagan did his best and Trump is also.
During the campaign I explained that Trump would get a ton of stuff done quickly. I explained that folks would be amazed at the issues he would attack simultaneously.
He puts his people on it, and they report in. He tweaks it, and the work or projects get done.
It remains to be seen just what exactly Trump finally gets done over time. I think we will be favorably impressed, and that doesn’t detract from Reagan > IMO.
Reagan was the best we had back then, and Trump is a highly skilled man who is the best in our day (at least with who was running).
I appreciate the mention.
I would never say that about Obama. He’s totally fit to clean toilets.
A 1980s era coin-fed newspaper box. How quaint.
Newspapers are a quaint concept from a by-gone era, too.
Exactly.
I mean talk is cheap, but at least nuclear dearmament is on the table.
Reunification seems to be also.
Frankly, if this is settled in a reasonable manner, Trump will have pulled off an amazing feat.
been firing these assholes since 2008 and damn proud of it.
heck, I even make a thread of it every damn time especially this coming midterms..
This time I’ll hire a transgender freak for the heck of it just to spice things up.
Somebody has to clean toilets. For the most part, they are more noble than so-called “journalists.”
Reagan was more eloquent or had better writers.
Every time the news media says or does something this bad they alienate more readers.
They say the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome. I’d say that describes much of todays news media. Actually that’s a stretch; ‘wannabe’ news media is more precise.
“A president who’d all but call a senator a whore is...”
Who is the Senator that Trump called a whore?
Was it princess Chief Crazy Whores?
But it does make good asswipe in the head, except for the glossy pages.
They are better used to start the garbage fires.
I don’t know if Trump called a senator a whore but it’s certainly accurate.
Notice both Reagan and Trump married great ladies. Might be a connection in how that works out. There are other cases of that in history.
Billy Jeff said Obama was qualified to fetch him coffee.
Just remember; it was Bush #1 who took the credit, but it was PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN WHO WON THE COLD WAR.
Mr. Gorbachev, TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!
And the rest was history.
Having a reasoned temperate wife is an amazing asset.
Melania seems to be handling the MSM effort to cause a rift in her marriage. I respect her all the more for handling it with such grace.
For the good of the nation, she has kept her best face on, and I will always respect her for it.
I agree.
We know, Reagan’s tactics ended the 70 year Communist U. S. S. R. threat.
He doesn’t get as much credit as he should, but those of us who lived through that time know the players he had to fight off to get the job done.
We can never permit the left even the hope of ever obtaining power again.
