Good idea to buckle up, then.

So is once in 45 years closer to “rare” or closer to “frequent”?

Once every 45 years sounds pretty rare to me.

—and , IIRC, a passenger was blown out of a British Comet in the early days of jet passenger aircraft-—

You need only go back to 1990, British Airways Flight 5390

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOcm6E10anI

In this accident, the cockpit window blew out due to faulty installation and the pilot’s upper body was sucked out of the plane, the only thing that saved him was getting his feet caught up in the control yoke (which put the plane into a dive). Amazingly he survived and was back at work 5 months later.

I remember that story of the accident in NM.

The way I remembered it the mans remains were never found.

Glad to hear he was eventually found.

How many of you remember this one. You think its bad when your window blows out - how about when the roof peels off:

Jennifer Riordan was only 43, married with pre-teen children, a girl and boy. She was on her way home from a business trip to NY. She worked for Wells Fargo. So far on the company’s internal website there are over 3300 messages of condolence from others who work at WF. She was a well-liked member of her community and was actively involved in several charities. The random nature of what happened to her is a life lesson that we should find as much joy in life as possible and never take life for granted.

Different circumstances, but I recall this from 1988 when I was with the 452nd Air Refueling Wing:

Master Sergeant James Borland…head and arm were lifted clear outside the aperture where the force of the partial ejection into the high speed, thin air killed him. His intact corpse was recovered when the aircraft descended to a viable height.

Actually, the person was blown out.

The pressure differential is from high pressure inside to very low pressure outside.
