.."The media has not covered the TPP correctly,"... Trump said.... "I dont want to go back into TPP, but if they offered us a deal I can't refuse, on behalf of the United States, I would do it. But I like bilateral better. I think its better for our country, I think its better for our workers and I much would prefer a bilateral deal. A deal directly with Japan. But I like bilateral better. I think its better for our country, I think its better for our workers and I much would prefer a bilateral deal. A deal directly with Japan."
(Further saying)..."We already have a deal with six of the 11 nations in the TPP. So we already have trade deals and the others we can make very easily."
countries that participated in TPP negotiations "are all calling wanting to make a deal. But we think thats much better for us. So unless they offer us a deal that we could not refuse, I would not go back into TPP. "
"In the meantime, we are negotiating, and what I really would prefer is negotiating a one-on-one deal with Japan,"

The TPP members are not going to renegotiate. It's a dead issue.
It Trump’s world, no deal is ever a dead deal.
And just think of all the freepers with their hair on fire when it was rumored Trump was considering TPP again.
They all were the usual suspects saying how they would never ever support Trump again, the last straw, etc
Did you read the rest of it? I think hes right on the bilateral issue, because most of these partnerships, coalitions or whatever you call them represent only one entity: the most powerful one in the room. In this case, that would be China, so Trump has got to negotiate with them and not pretend the TPP is anything but their vehicle.
I don’t think that is completely right.
TPP offers an alternative to dealing with only China.
It wasn’t the deal Trump wants, but it isn’t just a “China” deal. It is also a bunch of alternatives.
“And just think of all the freepers with their hair on fire when it was rumored Trump was considering TPP again.”
In my experience, it is difficult to sustain a level of wariness that prevents one from ever being taken in by fake news.
right. multilateral deals just dilute our sovereignty and leverage. better to go one country at a time.
this really is a no-brainer, unless your ultimate aim is one world gov’t controlling one world economy.
Good .
Let this Globalist evil monster cooked up by Soros and Obama and Goldman Sachs and the Uniparty die !
He said his preference was to go one on one..........they’d rather he didn’t in many cases as ultimately they want all trade deals under International Law. Thus we loose.
These bigger deals unconstitutionally give away our sovereignty!
Well....they’ll all take it to the wire before we’ll know. Not unusual things do change at the last minute. So will see before too long now.
Good post....exactly right. Press likes to report on this as if TPP is all nations......it’s not.
Yes....but the TPP leaderhip (China) state otherwise. Loss of sovereignty was all nations discussing concern over this. China assured them this would not be so rather their Sovereignity would be protected. Didn’t mention how of course.
Bilateral trade is what Congress should be doing.
Multilateral makes Congress look like inept losers.
We don’t need “agreements”, we need an across the board tariff of at least 20%. Screw the world.
Well you can ‘say screw the world’ all you want, but we do live in it. Agreements with other nation leaders are necessary as we do trade with them and vice versa. We’ll see how the tariffs work....no doubt.
Herpes is better thsn TPP
We are naked “Free Traders” in a protectionist world and it is not sustainable.
The last minute was a year or two ago. TPP has been implemented among the remaining members. I doubt that they're going to go back and negotiate all over again.
