Did you read the rest of it? I think he’s right on the bilateral issue, because most of these “partnerships,” “coalitions” or whatever you call them represent only one entity: the most powerful one in the room. In this case, that would be China, so Trump has got to negotiate with them and not pretend the TPP is anything but their vehicle.
I don’t think that is completely right.
TPP offers an alternative to dealing with only China.
It wasn’t the deal Trump wants, but it isn’t just a “China” deal. It is also a bunch of alternatives.
