Sen. Mike Lee pushes back against Trump administration’s claim it had authority for airstrikes

Sen. Mike Lee issued a statement Monday criticizing the Trump administration for not seeking congressional authority before launching airstrikes in Syria.

“No President of the United States, no matter party or political ideology, has the authority to unilaterally start a war. While the president has the authority under the War Powers Act to respond when the U.S. is under attack or in imminent danger, such circumstances did not exist with regard to Syria,” Mr. Lee, Utah Republican, tweeted.

Lee was one of the last idiots at the Republican national convention trying to muck up Trump’s nomination when most sane onlookers knewTrump had all the votes he needed.

IF he did, I’d have limited it to 15-30 seconds warning.

Agree completely, Lee is a huge disappointment. What is also a disappointment is that so many never-Trumpers are still on this board instead of going to the Dem underground or some other liberal site.

Well the precision strike is over. Mission accomplished (BTW Ruskies and Syrians will not let in inspectors it’s being reported)! So now what is it Mike wants to do about Trump’s coalitions accomplishment?

You FReepers are embarrassing yourselves. Worshipping a person is not conservative. Look back @ the Bushbots.

Mike Lee is one of the three true conservatives in the Senate. And he is right.

Remember when Reagan launched a surgical strike on Muammar Gaddafi in Lybia

If I recall correctly, Lybia fired on our fighters first. It was only then that Reagan attacked. Only Reagan didn't just down the fighters, he blasted Gaddafi good.

I am sick of these whiney do nothing Congressmen and Senators. They would welcome foreign invaders. Oh, wait they already do, they call them illegal aliens. Oh they say that’s go harsh, they’re just undocumented. Oh, that’s to harsh too, they’re dreamers. I remember in history class about some colonies revolting against a king, the uniting their states to form a great country. Why don’t they revolt?

I think war is longer. If it turns out to be a long time, then it would be unconstitutional.

I suspect many did and are and have been quietly trickling back with their tails between their legs, until some issue or too much positive support for Trump forces them to out themselves again.

I do love the smell of outed Hussein Heads on FR, though!

And on what ground does Mike Lee think Congress is now the CIC of the US Military?

“Makes no difference”

Really? So the person who was on the warpath on Twitter about attacking Syria and attacking Syria without congressional approval, gets elected and does the exact thing he warned against and because he’s our guy, it’s now A-ok? Ridiculous.

I think honest principled criticism from Lee

What "Principled" about a supposed GOP Senator posturing for the media when he knows full well the US Constitution provides NO base for his argument that Congress is the CIC of the US Military?

I think Trump made a serious mistake in Syria but Lee is completely off his meds here.

That’s right. Reagan’s attack was retaliatory and legit.

This thing here seems a bit confused.

Being kind of a newbie, I will not say that “never-Trumpers” shouldn’t be here, LOL.

But what I would say to “never-Trumpers” in the House and Senate is this: Donald Trump is showing you how to win. Donald Trump is showing you how to stand up and fight back regardless what the media says. We back President Trump and would love to back his allies in government! I will not vote for a “never-Trumper”...not saying I will vote dem, my hand would rot and fall off first.

So you whine about people “worshiping a personality” while blindly worshiping Mike Lee.

The stench of rabid hypocrisy wafting off your post is overwhelming.

What is supposedly “principled” about a fake Conservative GOP Senator posturing for the media when he knows full well the US Constitution provides NO base for his argument that Congress is the CIC of the US Military?

I think Trump made a serious mistake in Syria but Lee is completely off his meds here.

No worshiping here.

After the fiasco of 0bama with his worshiping of our enemies in the middle east and his cold shoulder to Israel we have a president that just came forward and let it be known that era is over.

I didn’t agree with him in the first place.

Good grief, get a grip.

Presidents do not have to get permission to conduct an air-strike.

I guess Lee and the rest of rabid Never Trump clown posse, forget the 3-4000 troops we have in Syria that THEY authorized. YOUR IDOLS in Congress started this idiocy during the 0 regime. They don’t now get to whine when Trump trys to clean up their errors
