Opinion: A post-Trump GOP might emerge from a Ryan Underground
Los Angeles Times ^ | April 16, 2018 | By DAN SCHNUR

When Paul Ryan became speaker of the House 30 short months ago, he was a free trader and ardent internationalist. He supported comprehensive immigration reform and believed that the Republican Party should make sincere and ongoing overtures to minority voters. He was fiercely committed to fiscal responsibility and deficit reduction as keys to private sector-driven economic growth. To many, he represented the future of the Republican Party.

Under Trump, Ryan's GOP no long exists, leaving Republicans singing the old Willie Nelson song, "I've Got a Wonderful Future Behind Me."

President Trump's version of Republicanism is about wall-building — literally, economically and philosophically — and rejects the optimistic and aspirational policy objectives that drew a generation of young conservatives like Ryan to public service. Trump's brand of populism is instead fueled by a collection of grievances, resentments and vitriol that blames others for our problems rather than empowering us to overcome them. For the past year-and-a-half, Ryan has struggled to survive in the uncomfortable role of Trump's accomplice — or the even more uncomfortable role of Trump's hostage.

Now he is almost free. And in the long run, Ryan's emancipation from the president's cramped and vitriolic narrative gives the Republican Party an opportunity to build its post-Trump future.

The immediate future, for both Trump and what is now his party, is bleak. But perhaps this upcoming time in the wilderness will enable the emergence of a new right-of-center Ryan Underground movement that helps Republicans reclaim their status as the party of ideas.

He [Ryan] was fiercely committed to fiscal responsibility and deficit reduction as keys to private sector-driven economic growth.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So how’s that working for the USA after Ryan’s been in the House & Speaker? Ryan looked good and sounded good & that was about all he did.

RE:”He was fiercely committed to fiscal responsibility and deficit reduction as keys to private sector-driven economic growth.”

That was all fake starting with his 2011 (10 year) balanced budget resolution with his fake Medicare reform.

He repeated it in 2012.

Some on FNC are saying he will put up a balanced budget Amendment to the constitution, another fake move.

Some suckers never learn.

Yup. Ryan was reprehensible, in more ways than one.

That is as likely as Jeb Bush winning the GOP nomination in 2016.

This jackass doesn't realize that Trump got elected because he listened to the base of the party.

The goal is “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”, that final amnesty to turn the USA into North Mexico that the Bushes have been dreaming of for decades.

Bush League Republicans still control most of the GOP to deny the citizens the ability to keep their country.

Trump is the only reason we still have a fighting chance.

Ryan just helped to pass a trillion dollar busting budget.

Conservative ideas? Don’t make mew laugh. Good riddance.

Why does Trump get a pass for signing that same budget?

The Bush League Republicans will not stop working for the final amnesty that negates the rule of law and the meaning of citizenship until they are thrown out of office.
Graham has stated that repeatedly.

It’s all about “Comprehensively Screwing Americans Out Of Their Country”

How about a post-Ryan, post-RINO, post-SWAMP GOP????

That would really be something to get excited about.

Yup. Try, just try, to send your daughter money to buy a car, or help her with a down payment on a house - and watch the banking system go nuts on you for possible "Bank Structuring" or "Mail and Bank Fraud." Yup - it's now a potential CRIME to use YOUR OWN MONEY!

We have gotten so far away from Freedom in this nation, and the US Constitution, that it is a Greek tragedy. But the elite? They literally get away with rape and murder.

You might find this article interesting, though it isn't anything many of us here on FR are surprised by: Think It Can't Happen Here? Austin Bomber's Capture Exposes Depth Of US Surveillance State Interesting read.

As for the article you linked...good God. I would have had no idea. That is the problem with the Federal Register. There are so many rules, regulations, and statutes that at any given time, you could unwittingly be in violation of number of them.

Gives a whole NEW meaning to "Show me the man, I'll find you the crime."

And they will LOOSE because we as sure as heck won't be voting for no anti-American, globalist, illegal alien loving, establishment RINO republipukes.

The Republican party either respects and supports the rule of law, securing the southern border and supporting President Trump and his plan to "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) or face the consequences of loosing big time because we have absolutely zero intentions of voting for RINOS PERIOD!

The days of "you HAVE to vote Republican because our candidates are 'the lesser of two evils'". In reality, establishment RINO Republicans and Democrats are EXACTLY THE SAME!

We know this now and: "We won't be fooled again!"

I think Ryan resigning is so he can run as the GOP-E spoiler candidate against Trump in 2020.

Sounds like this "post-Trump GOP" nonsense might be a meme the GOPe and never Trumpers are trying to seed around the media. Reince is talking the same thing, and to think he, with these attitudes, was Trump's first chief of staff. The underminers are everywhere and have limited the president's accomplishments, even though there have been major successes. There should have been even more.

Reince Priebus: GOP will revert to old ways after Trump

I think these jerks looking forward to the post-Trump GOP will find they've lost a big chunk of the Trump supporters if they continue to undermine his agenda.
