California man arrested for bringing ‘assault rifle, large capacity magazines’ from Nevada

Authorities in Contra Costa County announced the arrest of a man who allegedly smuggled guns and magazines legally bought in Nevada into California where they are banned.

The man, Virgilio Salazar, 50, of Antioch, was arrested late last month as part of a task force effort after he allegedly purchased guns and magazines in Nevada and brought them back to the San Francisco Bay Area to resell. Police seized “a .223 Colt AR-15 assault rifle, CZ 9mm semi-auto assault pistol, three large capacity rifle magazines, and two large capacity pistol magazines,” during a search of Salazar’s home.

He was booked on felony charges under California law that include importing an assault rifle, possession of an assault rifle, and importing large capacity magazines. Salazar was released on $300,000 bail. Of note, the Contra Costa County Superior Court felony bail schedule, by comparison, sets bail for those charged with rape at $100,000 and child beating at $50,000.

LOL . . . these freaks would go into seizures looking into one (1) of my four (4) safes.
Well, before I had that tragic boating accident in which ALL were lost. Sad.

I think they did that type of scam in Mass. Mass. would send troopers under cover up to NH border to spy on liquor sales to Mass. residents. NH arrested a couple of them.

” to resell. “

This was the key phrase. He must have posted it somewhere, that is probably how they found out.

Me too. I sold my AR, mags and ammo before transferring from NC to CA last January.

I would hope not. Not for possession at least. But I think this is complicated. Did he buy them legally? And next, did he take them to California for private possession? If, as some reports suggest, he went to California and attempted to resell them, I think he’s got problems.

Okay, can someone explain the three items on the top of the rifle? That’s been bugging me since I first saw the picture.

On the left is a flashlight. The device in the middle is a red dot holographic sight. And the thing on the right is an optical multiplier (a scope without the crosshairs) that works with the red dot sight. Looks to me like that light is obscuring the view through the sight but hey, it does look cool, doesn’t it?

Thanks! Figured out the light and red dot, but the first one on the right was throwing me, plus the complication if the are all on the same line of sight.

Poor people in California, so scary. /s

Kalifornia DOJ agents are known to hang around the parking lots of local gun stores and gun shows, here in Reno, recording license plate numbers. One of them has been trespassed off of at least one gun store that I am aware of. That said this guy most likely shot his mouth off to the wrong person. The new thing is to rat your relatives or friends out. I am curious how he bought the guns in Nevada.

“... three large capacity rifle magazines, and two large capacity pistol magazines”

Large or high capacity mags is lib speak. They are standard capacity mags.

It appears to have a threaded barrel. Under CA law, that makes it an "assault weapon".

The law makes sense.

[Made up story, but that doesn't mean it's not true:] I was having dinner in a California restaurant when a gang of stereotypical criminals (white, male, heterosexual, Christian, AND prior military!) rushed through the door and announced a robbery.

My wife: "It's a robbery.

Me: "No big deal. Let's enjoy the meal."

My wife: "But they have guns!"

Me: "Guns aren't scary. Let's enjoy the meal."

My wife: "But the guns have threaded barrels!"

Me: "Threaded? We're screwed!"

I know this is Commiefornia and its not even worth checking any more, BUT, is Virgilio Salazar, 50, of Antioch, even a legal citizen in this country?

Cool! I just learned I own an “assault pistol”. It will go nicely with my AR-15 and Saiga Rifle.

That’s handguns only. If you pass the background check, you can buy a long gun in any state. BTDT.

That would require collusion on the part of the FBI. I thought they only had authority based on federal law. Have you ever heard of the FBI arresting people for speeding?
