California man arrested for bringing ‘assault rifle, large capacity magazines’ from Nevada

Authorities in Contra Costa County announced the arrest of a man who allegedly smuggled guns and magazines legally bought in Nevada into California where they are banned.

The man, Virgilio Salazar, 50, of Antioch, was arrested late last month as part of a task force effort after he allegedly purchased guns and magazines in Nevada and brought them back to the San Francisco Bay Area to resell. Police seized “a .223 Colt AR-15 assault rifle, CZ 9mm semi-auto assault pistol, three large capacity rifle magazines, and two large capacity pistol magazines,” during a search of Salazar’s home.

He was booked on felony charges under California law that include importing an assault rifle, possession of an assault rifle, and importing large capacity magazines. Salazar was released on $300,000 bail. Of note, the Contra Costa County Superior Court felony bail schedule, by comparison, sets bail for those charged with rape at $100,000 and child beating at $50,000.

I’m working on getting my mom out, does that count as a missionary endeavor?

New Jersey used to send tax agents over to shopping centers in Pennsylvania. They’d record the license numbers of cars with NJ plates. I suspect Kalifornia has a rat/s that check Nevada FFL dealer’s parking lots. It wouldn’t be hard to mosey in when a Kalifornia tagged car is parked outside. Customer buys a banned item, he’s screwed. Cops pick him up on the way in.

Salazar was released on $300,000 bail.

The Peoples Republic is a 'sanctuary state.' If they happen to discover that he's an "undocumented immigrant", the charges will no doubt be dropped (& the records shredded, to restore his "undocumented" status ;^), & he'll be free to go...

That, or a special forces mission. She is deep behind enemy lines.

Best of luck to you and your mom.

So the CA man's plate was spotted in a NV gun dealer's lot?

How did the cops know he bought a banned weapon? That he bought anything at all?

Here's something I find easier to believe - NV gun dealer performs a background check, It pings local law enforcement in CA. All they have to do is wait for him to return, then raid his house.

This suggests that the BG check system is less than secure...

Just think of the damage had they been YUGE capacity clips instead of the less deadly large capacity magazines. 🙀🐂💨💩

And you better keep those two "assault pistols" separated; if they were to somehow achieve some sort of intimate contact, you might find yourself with a litter of "assault derringers" running around the house...

;^)

Buying guns in a legitimate gun shop by an out of state purchaser and taking immediate delivery is an urban myth.

“From FFL to FFL, every time, no exceptions.”

Remember that phrase. It tells you what you need to do to stay out of trouble with the gun transfer laws when buying firearms across state lines. Federal firearms license (FFL) holders are the only persons who can legally handle gun sales across state lines. This means that the merchant you’re buying from must have an FFL, and that seller must, we repeat, must, ship the weapon directly to an FFL holder in your state. It’s then up to you to go to the FFL holder in your state and take possession of the weapon. Usually, the dealer will charge a small handling fee for his or her part in the transaction. Be sure to contact the FFL holder in your state to advise them you’d like to have the firearm shipped to their location. By handling interstate transactions in this manner, you’ll be in full compliance with federal laws. (Yes, it is from some internet site.)

Maybe private sales and seller did not do due diligence else entrapped him.

A friend of mine who had an arrest 40 years earlier tried to purchase in CA. Before he returned to the dealer and learned he was denied, a force of several officers in black tactical gear came to his place and searched and seized other weapons. I understand this is fairly common in CA. It is extremely rare arrests are made if someone is simply trying to buy and is denied.

This is true, California cops watch California citizens buying guns & ammo in Nevada, it used to be just at gun shows.

“CA DOJ agents have been known to unscrupulously surveille Nevada gun shows to identify California buyers purchasing items prohibited in California and then have them stopped by CHP or local law enforcement once they have crossed the border. If you are at a gun show or Nevada retailer, be very careful not to give these agents any probable cause.”

He shoulda just stayed in Nevada.

Could he have requested status as a political refugee from a communist dictatorship?

I regularly watch TV programs set in California during the 50s and 60s era. For instance the Movie “The Birds”. The most common to me is “Perry Mason”. A lot of the episodes take place in small towns and involve hunting and shooting.

It really looked like a nice place to live back then. Beautiful Country, nice people, plenty of open spaces. For that matter, Erle Stanley Gardner was an avid outdoorsman and did most of his writing out in the wilderness living in a trailer.

Now you would have to pay me $20,000 a day and then just so I could save enough to return to Florida or maybe the North Georgia Mountains and buy some property.

It would be hell on earth now.

So now California has its own state border custom agents?

As I said before, Cali gun control is a violation of interstate commerce. Meanwhile they keep nurturing and exporting their illegal criminals to other states

We are in a Civil war again courtesy the Democrat party. I hope the GOP is not dumb enough to attack Cali writ large like Lincoln while we all know it is a democrat or Rino bipartisan corruption issue

Yes and No, I own a home in Arizona and 2 in California, I can Legally buy a firearm in Arizona, cash and carry, instant check, all I need is to prove residency, a Utility bill will suffice, And since I have 2 “Domiciles” (ask your lawyer) I can also purchase a firearm in California. Now the guns in Arizona STAY in Arizona!!!
